The races were subsequently abandoned in the 1940's & 50's due to limited resources during World War II and the necessary economic & infrastructure restoration efforts after the war. Resurrected in Reno, Nevada in 1964 by WWII flying ace Bill Stead, the Reno Air Races celebrate the horsepower, ingenuity and skills of pilots who operated these WWII fighter planes under much more dangerous and dire circumstances.
