The Dirty Dozen: The Deadly Mission


            From an upstairs window, a man takes photographs of Los Angeles, California, Channel 6 television news anchorwoman Jamie Douglas (Morgan Fairchild) as she swims nude in her backyard pool. Jamie's reporter boyfriend, Brandon (Michael Sarrazin), joins her in the water, but Jamie gets out to answer a telephone call from the voyeur, who says he enjoys watching her. As she hangs up, he turns to admire the wall in his room, covered with photographs of Jamie.At the news station the next day, Jamie receives a bouquet of flowers from a mysterious admirer named Derek. Meanwhile, Derek the voyeur (Andrew Stevens) inspects the pictures he took of Julie in his professional photography lab. As Jamie delivers the evening news on television, Derek telephones her office and leaves a message for her. Assuming the caller is Jamie's new boyfriend, Jamie's colleague, Bobby (Kevin Brophy), delivers the note, but she insists she does not know the man.Elsewhere, Derek takes his co-worker, Julie (Wendy Smith Howard), out to dinner and tells her about his former crush on a college art teacher, who he was too afraid to speak to. Julie invites him to see a movie, but Derek claims he is dating someone.In her dressing room, Jamie listens to a message from Derek, introducing himself. Moments later, Derek telephones again and insists they meet for dinner. She declines, and phones her actress friend, Robin Dunlap (Colleen Camp), asking to get together. At Robin's house, however, Derek repeatedly phones and asks for Jamie. When she returns home to meet Brandon for dinner, she enters her darkened, empty house, but is relieved to find her boyfriend in the bathroom.The next morning, Derek stops by the station and gives Jamie a box of candy as an apology for scaring her. She thanks him, and Derek returns to the parking lot to slash the tires on Brandon's car. When Jamie leaves work, Derek follows her home. He rings the doorbell and pushes his way into the house, taking dozens of photographs as she screams in his face. After Brandon arrives and attacks Derek, he takes Jamie to ask police Captain "Max" Maxwell for a restraining order. Max, however, insists that Derek has not committed an actual crime. Meanwhile, Derek visits Robin in her dressing room, where he asks for assistance in securing a date with Jamie.The next day, Robin takes Jamie shopping to distract her from thinking about Derek; the two women admire a silver, heart-shaped music box, but decide not to buy it. Minutes later, Jamie sees a man she believes to be Derek purchasing the box, although his face remains obscured. She uses the store telephone to check her home answering machine, which contains a message from Derek. Upon hanging up, she bumps into Derek, who presents her with the music box. Jamie shatters the trinket on the ground as shoppers stare.At work, Brandon speaks with "pop" psychologist, Dr. Weston, about Derek's probable mental instability and delusional attempts to court Jamie. He later orders Max to help, but the captain refuses, suggesting that Brandon buy a gun instead.At the gym, Jamie tells Robin that she plans to move in with Brandon. Meanwhile, Derek breaks into Jamie's house with the broken music box, showers, and puts a photograph of Jamie behind the memento's shattered glass. When she returns home, Derek watches from the closet as she undresses and takes a bath. Jamie gets up to answer a telephone call and notices the box. Her stalker reveals himself, and Jamie runs to the front door, where she finds Brandon. However, Derek escapes through the window, taking the music box with him. Moments after Derek returns home, Julie drops off a packet of photographs and admits her feelings for him, but he claims to be engaged to another woman.That night, Jamie tells Brandon that she refuses to let Derek's actions scare her. When Derek telephones, Brandon loads a rifle, intending to kill him. In his room, Derek places an engagement ring in the music box. The next day, Brandon meets Max, who is now frustrated by Brandon's persistence.At the television station, Jamie and Bobby review a videotape of one of her news reports and see Derek looming in the background. As Bobby comforts her, Derek watches from a hall closet, then sneaks to an empty desk and types a page of script for the teleprompter. Jamie reads the news on air, but stops abruptly when she sees Derek's message reading: "Jamie, I'm watching you. And Jamie... if I can't have you, no one can! Love you always, Derek." She quietly pleads for help, bursts into tears, and walks off camera.Later, Brandon assures her that Max has agreed to look into the matter, and suggests she relax in the hot tub. While Brandon prepares a plate of cheese and crackers, Max telephones to report that he has identified the stalker as "Derek Sanford." He reveals the man's telephone number, and promises to catch him.As Jamie and Brandon make love in the hot tub, Brandon is stabbed and collapses with the cheese knife lodged in his back; Derek appears and buries the body in the yard and returns home. Meanwhile, Jamie telephones the police to report the murder, but hears a recorded message stating that all dispatchers are busy. She then phones Derek, begging him to return. When he enters her bedroom, however, she emerges from the closet and shoots at him with Brandon's rifle. He escapes unharmed, but receives another telephone call from Jamie, promising him that she will not inform the police.After Derek anxiously tears his photographs of Jamie from the wall, Julie arrives to warn him that a police detective came by the studio. She now knows he is stalking Jamie. Just then, Max shows up at Derek's home and threatens to press charges. However, when the captain leaves, Derek orders the adoring Julie away so he can continue watching Jamie through his window. When he notices Jamie's rifle in her living room, he grabs a knife and returns to her house, where he attempts to rape her. Although initially frightened, Jamie pretends to welcome his advances and encourages him. Flustered by her transformation, Derek leaves Jamie time to recoup the knife and threaten him before stepping away. As Derek jumps toward her, holding the blade to her throat, Julie barges in and kills him with the rifle.

            Captain C.F. "Hawk" Hawkens (Vince Edwards) a former Space Service Colonel turned pirate leads his crew on a mission to steal a freighter owned by an interstellar corporation simply referred to as "The Company". During the theft, a 10-year-old boy named Peter (David Mendenhall) slips aboard the freighter to hide and the pirates steal the ship unaware he is aboard. After the freighter rendezvouses with Hawk's ship, the crew fight to save the life of a comrade wounded during the shootout. Meanwhile, Peter comes out of hiding and asks to be taken home.At first, Hawk considers ransoming the child, but during a skirmish with Company fighters, Hawk's feelings change when Peter courageously volunteers to squeeze into a tight compartment and fixes a damaged power conduit that allows them to escape. Hawk then promises to take Peter back to his home planet, Procyon III, with no strings attached. First however, Hawk's crew stop to rest at a space station owned by an alien crime lord named Zariatin (Ray Stewart).On Procyon III, Peter's father meets with The Company's security director who decides to track the boy down with their advanced robot ship; a massive, fully automated battle cruiser that can home in on an identity tag Peter wears around his neck.Back at Zariatin's station, a pair of bounty hunters spot Peter and realize he is a "company kid" worth a hefty ransom. When Peter wanders off, Flightplan (Thom Christopher), a psychic alien member of Hawk's crew, senses the boy is in danger. When Hawk finds him, Zariatin arrives and is furious a child is snooping around his station. Hawk promises the kid will not be a problem, but threatens to kill Zariatin if he tries to lay a hand on him.While Hawk and crew relax in the bar, a bored Peter slips out of his cabin and the bounty hunters follow. Meanwhile, Zariatin calls Hawk to remind him that his service fees are long past due. Zeriatin then demands that Hawk steal four Company fuel ships from a depot on Regulus V, but as an incentive, the boy must remain at the station. Hawk refuses to leave Peter behind, but agrees to steal the ships. He orders his crew member Amanda (Patsy Pease) to take Peter home in one of ships once the job is pulled off.Hawk returns to Peter's cabin, but finds the boy missing and races back to the bar. In the meantime, Peter spots the bounty hunters and escapes down a maintenance shaft. He makes it to a vent grating outside the tavern just as a barroom brawl ensues among belligerent spacers. Unfortunately, Hawk is unable to hear Peter's cries for help over the ruckus and the bounty hunters capture him. Thinking Zeriatin has taken Peter, Hawk confronts him, but just then, Zariatin is alerted that the bounty hunters are making an unauthorized departure which Hawk believes can only mean that they have the boy.Hawk immediately give chase, but the hunters soon encounter the Company robot ship. Programmed for self-defense, the ship reacts to being fired upon and destroys the bounty hunter's ship. Peter manages to get away in an escape pod which is later picked up by Hawk once Flightplan senses he is still alive.Back on course to Regulus V, Hawk teaches Peter how to fire the ship's lasers using asteroids as target practice. Once at the planet, Hawk's crew go after the tanker ships and Hawk says his goodbyes to Peter. After a battle with security robots, Hawk's crew succeeds in taking the ships, but nearby, the Company observes the theft with the robot ship and orders it to follow the convoy.Meanwhile, Amanda breaks off to take Peter home, but her ship is ambushed by starfighters sent by Zeriatin and crashes on a nearby planet. Afterward, Amanda is killed by Zeriatin's thugs and Peter is captured. He is taken back to the station and brought before Zeriatin who tells him he will be ransomed back to his parents and his friends will be killed. Having returned to the station, Flightplan tells the others, to their disbelief, that he senses Peter is still somewhere aboard and goes looking for him. He finds and rescues the boy, but is shot by Zeriatin's guards as they try and flee. Peter gets away and finds Hawk in the bar with his two remaining crewmen.The station now comes under alert as the robot ship closes in. The station launches several defense ships in response, but none can stop it. Peter and the remainder of Hawk's crew try to flee the station, but they are confronted by Zeriatin and his men. The last two of Hawk's crew are killed off, and Hawk manages to shoot and kill Zeriatin, but not before being shot himself. Peter then struggles to get Hawk back to his ship where they get away just moments before the station explodes.The robot ship sets its sights on Hawk's ship next, but unable to outrun it, Hawk tells Peter to fire the lasers the moment the robot ship lowers its defenses, which it must do to fire its weapons. Hawk closes in and Peter takes the shot successfully destroying the enemy ship. Peter's victory is short lived however, and he tries to save Hawk's life who has passed out in the pilot seat. Hawk returns to consciousness and takes Peter home as promised. There, they say their final goodbyes and a sad and worried Peter disembarks the ship. Although severely wounded and alone, Hawk flies off back into space.
