Soumyajit Majumdar(an alumni of mass communication and videography from St. Xaviers College, Kolkata) is a young film and theatre professional based in Kolkata who founded LOK in 2010 and is now artistic director of national creative arts collective LOK producer-director of LOK Productions and casting director at LOK INDIE STUDIO. He has scripted, designed, directed, and acted in more than 20 plays with over 300 performances to his credit across 12 cities in India including auspicious venues like Prithvi theatre and NCPA(Mumbai), Akshara theatre and LTG auditorium(Delhi), G.D Birla Sabhaghar and EZCC(Kolkata) and also alternative spaces like campuses, book stores, art galleries, shopping malls, cafes, lawns, parks, streets, amphitheatres creating a personal idiom of using spaces for live-act exploration. He began his film career with the internationally acclaimed film Gandu and Mahesh Bhatt's production, Aashiqui 2 (journalist Kunal Basu). Soumyajit has conducted self-devised theatre and art therapy workshops in leading schools and colleges of India like the Shri Ram college of Commerce(Delhi), VIT(Vellore), Mount Carmel College(Bangalore), Shrishty college of arts and design(Bangalore), Loreto Day School and Mahadevi Birla World Academy(Kolkata), Sophia college for women(Mumbai) etc. He has also performed and directed plays in National and International festivals like Sahabhaga International Festival( Bangalore), Mulakaat(Indi-Pak cultural relations festival, Delhi), Atelier Theatre Festival(Delhi), Thespo(Mumbai). He represented India at the Asian Youth Summit for global changemakers 2011 and has directed developmental theatre projects for the Delhi Government and the United Nations with slum kids and has been awarded YOUNG ACHIEVER by Whistling Woods International.
