Sarah Gaul is an award-winning musical comedienne, actor, playwright, improviser and writer.Shel first starting playing piano and taking singing lessons as a wee girl in a small country town called Muswellbrook. Since then, Sarah has studied law, dropped out of law to study acting at the VCA in Melbourne, then dropped out of acting to pursue comedy full-time. Sarah has trained in classical and contemporary voice, classical piano, improvisation and acting.Sarah has taken her one-woman cabaret show to The Adelaide Fringe (2013, 2014 & 2016, 2017), The Melbourne Comedy Festival (2013 & 2016), The Melbourne Cabaret Festival (2013), The Sydney Fringe Festival (2015, 2016, 2017), and the Sydney Comedy Festival (2016, 2017). Her shows My Piano and Me, The Iron(ic) Lady, Sarah Gaul in: SLUMBERLAND and COMEDIENNE have received critical acclaim from media and audience right across the country, confirming her place as one of Australia's most exciting emerging comedic talents.Sarah's original cabaret piece Good Grief, which she performed with long-time friend and collaborator Sophie Wright (Kinky Boots, Wicked, Broadway to Oz), won her BEST NEW ORIGINAL WORK at the 2013 Short & Sweet Cabaret Festival in Melbourne, and she was a finalist in the 2014 INTERNATIONAL CABARET COMPETITION. Sarah has headlined performances at the University of Sydney, and regularly performs at Giant Dwarf , Slide Lounge and, The Seymour Centre and The Red Rattler.As a writer, Sarah has worked with Playwriting Australia, and has had work produced by ATYP and Tantrum Theatre. Her piece The Last Post was selected for publication by Currency Press in a collection aimed at HSC Drama students. Sarah was shortlisted as a candidate for the 2017 ATYP Rose Byrne Scholarship.Sarah was part of the Winning Team at the 2015 Sydney University Theatresports Cup, and has studied Improv Theatre Sydney. She has performed at the Giant Dwarf, The Roxbury Hotel, Hermanns Bar, The Enmore Theatre and Manning Bar. Sarah's team went on to win the 2017 Australian National Theatresports Championships.Sarah's film credits include Hunters and Runners (2012), No Privacy in Public (2014), Hot Mess (2017), On the Fringe (2017) and The Rich Inner Lives of Women being Mansplained to (2017).Sarah is a passionate feminist and advocate of women's rights. She is proud to have co-directed the 2016 Sydney University Wom*n's Revue, a sketch comedy and music show created to give a voice to those who identify as women. Sarah began a Wom*n's Theatresports Program at the University of Sydney to create more opportunities in the arts for wom*n on campus. The program secured ongoing funding from the USU in 2017.Sarah is based in Brooklyn and is enjoying the fruits of New York city, and has appeared in Broadway Sessions, Parkside Lounge, and was the July winner of Kraine Theatre's Cabaret Showdown.
