Try to Remember: The Fantasticks

In this subversive, dark comedy, Annie and and her best friend Louise, share a secluded cottage in the woods with Annies semi invalid mother. Annie is a small town vet and also a compulsive empathizer, according to Louise. Thats why the casualty rate on her relationships is so high. But Louise, the class slut hasnt done any better. After a crazy, demeaning encounter with Annies old boyfriend, Russell, who is also the town cop, the women drink tequila and swear a blood oath to give up men for a year. Later that night, as heavy snow begins to fall, a fugitive, Ricky breaks into their house trying to escape the snow storm and the law. Russell tracks him there and in the ensuing struggle is killed with his own gun. The women manage to subdue Ricky. Next morning, the phones and power are out and the road impassable. The women, each in her own way, must deal with Rickys intrusion into the household. Louise and Ricky are instantly antagonistic. But Louise refuses to back down from the sexual power struggle she herself instigated. At the same time she becomes more and more alarmed at the growing bond of sensitivity forming between Annie and Ricky. Does he pose a real threat or is Louise merely jealous? Annie is convinced she can help him understand the forces that rule his life. But can she understand her own? Friendship and freedom are tested at each new twist as the situation spins dangerously out of control.
