Rick Rodney gained underground fame not from his starring role in the independent film Godmoney (1999), but from performing as the lead vocalist in the popular hardcore band 'Strife'. The band, based out of Las Angeles, California, was formed in 1991 and was based on the members' "no drugs" and "no alcohol" straight edge life style. Following the release of their first full length album, "One Truth" in 1994, the band quickly became one of the preeminent hardcore bands in America, and arguably the most successful hardcore band ever to come out of California. The band released their second album, "In This Defiance", in 1997 and it was an underground hit. Rick followed up the success of his second album by taking the starring role in the independent film Godmoney (1999) portraying a character trying to get away from a life of drugs and abuse. This role was very fitting for Rodney, who had been portraying straight edge ideals for several years as the front man of Strife. Soon after the film's release, Rick and the band called it quits. They remained quiet for over two years, but reformed in 2000 after playing several benefit shows together.
