            From time to time there comes a product that you have to sit up and take notice just because somebody even attempted it. Madras Café, with all its flaws, is one such movie. Ours has been a nation obsessed with Gods and saviors. Even more than the Jews, we Indians have always been looking for a savior to rescue us from the mire that is our lives. Our mythological stories are full of Gods to took human form to save mankind and our recent history is filled with people who are considered demi-Gods by their supporters. From Gandhi to Mamata, our leaders always evoke one of two reactions - total and unquestioned loyalty or complete and utter dismissal. In such an environment, Madras Café tries to tell the story of, arguably, the most important political event of our times. The assassination of Rajiv Gandhi, without a doubt, changed the face of Indian politics. Shoojit Sarkar and John Abraham, producer, have to be commended for trying to tell an unbiased story on how Rajiv Gandhi came to be assassinated in a most gruesome manner.The movie traces the story from the point of view of Bikram Singh, a RAW agent, who works undercover in Sri Lanka to undermine LTTE chief Prabhakaran and help get the peace process on track. Along the way, he is double crossed, kidnapped, lied to and loses the most cherished parts of his life. Unfortunately, John Abraham the actor does not live up to John Abraham the producer. Johns limited acting abilities mean that we are left feeling cold and unattached to the main protagonist. This is not the first time John has essayed a promising role in the most lifeless manner possible (check out No Smoking or Shootout at Wadala). The movie is filled with bad actors essaying promising roles or good actors essaying one-dimensional roles. For all the effort, Shoojit Sarkar fails to recreate the magic of Vicky Donor. He is let down by the script and the acting skills at his disposal. But it is not all gloomy. Instead there is a lot to recommend about the movie. For one, the photography is top-class. Shot mostly in Kerala and Tamil Nadu, Kamaljeet Negi does a fine job of capturing the beauty and horror that must have been Sri Lanka in the Prabhakaran era. The music by Shantanu Moitra is complementary without being intrusive to the storytelling. Then there is the fact that this movie was actually made. This is a moment when you have to put aside your demand for the perfect movie and watch Madras Café just so you can tell Bollywood that youd prefer this brand of cinema to the Khans brand. What John Abraham needs is to build a team of good technicians and actors. If he can continue to support and make money from the kind of cinema he believes in, it would be a turning point for Bollywood. Verdict: Must watch

            Having believed a police officer's life to be a happy one with lots of money coming in the form of bribes, Karnan, an orphan, grows up to become a corrupt Sub-Inspector who forms an immediate friendship with the local don ECR Kaalirajan by releasing his four brothers Kumar, Prakash, Vinay, and Sabari from lock-up, who were all arrested for smuggling. Karnan's attitude does not go well with his subordinate Abdul Kader, a sincere police constable. In vain as it is, he tries to oppose Karnan's deeds.Meanwhile, Karnan meets and falls in love with Sindhu, who gets kidnapped by Kaalirajan's men on her birthday but is rescued in time by Karnan. Kaalirajan then scolds his henchmen for kidnapping the wrong person and apologizes to both of them. As her birthday gift, Sindhu requests Karnan to save the girl who was supposed to be kidnapped and killed by Kaalirajan. A reluctant Karnan fights Kaalirajan's goons and saves the girl, Santhiya. Karnan somehow reconciles with Kaalirajan later and learns that Santhiya has certain evidence against Kaalirajan's brothers. Karnan meets her and learns that her sister Bhavani was kidnapped, raped, and brutally assaulted to death by Kaalirajan's four brothers for two weeks, and this act was recorded by them. The footage was stored on a camera, which is with Santhiya now. Karnan takes the camera and arranges to send both Santhiya and her mother to the States.Before their departure, Santhiya's conversation with him leaves him shattered. Realizing that he was indeed responsible for the rape since he allowed the brothers to escape, Karnan is devastated and soon realizes that he has changed after he fights off Kaalirajan's goons sent to retrieve the camera at the police station, with Kader notifying the change in him. He soon manages to track the brothers and beat them all up before arresting them. After Bhavani's corpse is found and the autopsy is performed, Karnan produces the camera as the evidence, which turns out to be an empty one. Though no further evidence exists, Karnan asks a gap of one day to provide necessary evidence so that Kaalirajan's brothers do not escape as exonerated. Later, Kaalirajan's men attack a drunk Karnan when he is alone. After a brutal fight, they bury him alive, but he manages to escape.Karnan reaches the court the next day, and to everyone's shock, he adds that he is one among not the four, but "five" men who sexually assaulted Bhavani. He then convinces the judge to sentence all five of them to capital punishment in order to ensure that the other four do not escape punishment. This statement shakes the entire course of the case, and Karnan is publicly resented. He is allowed by the commissioner to watch as all four of the brothers are hanged to death, after which he too is hanged. Merely hours later, Santhiya and her mother arrive in Chennai, publicly revealing that Karnan was not involved in the rape of her sister, and the sacrifice he made was to ensure punishment to all of the accused criminals. The revelation shocks the nation, and the people who misunderstood him eventually mourn his death as his corpse is bought and walked from the gallows. The film ends with Karnan's final words: "All men will now fear an immediate death sentence, if they ever molest a girl."

            The film begins with a joint family Raghupathi (Jagapathi Babu) and his brothers Sripathi (Nagineedu), Chalapathi (Abhimanyu Singh), Ganapathi (Brahmaji) owners of PATHI & CO Groups. The entire family is brimful with love & affections. One after one, every person is killed in their family by unknown secret killers (Prabhakar & Amith). To protect his daughter Shruti (Rashi Khanna) Raghupathi looks for an American alliance. Krishna Prasad (Gopichand) is an NRI, who comes to India to get hooked on Sruthi. He is too good & very much kind and comes close to the family in a few days. In the beginning, Sruthi tries to avert the marriage because she doesn't want to leave her family but later falls in his love when Krishna Prasad saves their family from their enemies. On the day of the marriage Sruthi wants to personally talk with Krishna Prasad, so, her brother Mahendra (Shaam) takes them to their farm where she asks Krishna Prasad to come to India leaving everything in the US for the sake and he happily agrees. Suddenly, they are attacked by unknown killers when a huge twist in the story Krishna Prasad takes the sword from Mahendra and brutally decapitates him. Thereby Sruthi goes into the shocking state where it is revealed that he is not Krishna Prasad but Sanjeev, the person who killed the other members of the family also and the secret killers are his men.Sanjeev works as a Major in Indian Army and the two secret killers are his colleagues Captain Amith(Amit Tiwari) & Captain Satyaveer(Prabhakar). Once he comes to his hometown on leave, he leads a happy life with his parents (Chandra Mohan and Sudha), a younger brother Ajay and his girlfriend/fiancee Geetha (Anu Emmanuel) a microbiologist. When everything is going well a sad thing happens in the family: Ajay who is a top ranker of University is a chain smoker, and he suddenly dies out of it. Geetha catches a point through his postmortem report that all the organs of his body are spoiled and this would happen only due to taking powerful drugs. When Sanjeev is in search he only finds a cigarette packet in Ajay's room. After testing they find out that heavy dose of drugs have been mixed with a new composition in the cigarette for more sales and it spread like cancer all over the country. Here Sanjeev plans an operation Oxygen to smash the brand and he successfully does so. After that Sanjeev gets ready to go back to duty, at that time he gets information that someone is inquiring regarding him & his family. Before he reaches home a shocking incident PATHI & CO brothers arrive except Raghupathi because they are the original proprietors of the brand & the persons holding the formula. They brutally kill Sanjeev's parents. When asked about Sanjeev to Geeta, she leaks the gas killing herself and them. Now Sanjeev decides to take revenge. He also comes to know that they reintroduced the product by changing the brand name, so, his target is to destroy the formula.Listening to this Sruthi decides to help him with her support, Sanjeev traces out all the legal activities of PATHI & CO, catches their black money Rs. 5000 crores and distributes to the affected parties all over the country. Finally, he succeeds in treasure trove the formula located at their factory. Then he applies Plan B by keeping a message to the public to whom he distributed the money, that to watch a video on the internet. Sanjeev & his men enter the factory and set the cameras & bombs in the factory. Suddenly bullets fire Amith & Satyaveer are shot died and Sanjeev is wounded, same time cameras start working where everybody gets astonished that Raghupathi coming out with his cruel face changing his traditional wear to modern getup. Raghupathi speaks very badly regarding public & their weakness and reveals his entire secrets', regarding the formula also which was treasured in his mind. At last, Sanjeev gives a message regarding NO SMOKING and jumps into the fire by blasting the factory along with Raghupathi. After this incident, most of the public gets motivated and stops smoking. Police close the case and declare Sanjeev is dead. Finally, the movie ends by Sanjeev changing his identity and continuing his mission.

            Shiva (Ram) is a happy-go-lucky guy who supports love marriage and keeps helping couples to get married against their parents will. One day when he is in a train, he sees Tanu (Rashi Khanna) proposing to him loudly. He eventually jumps out. Tanu runs away after her friend Rishitha (Himaja) said her act was good, but asked to whom she proposed. Shiva finally follows Tanu. She continuously rejects him. He makes Rishi's marriage with her lover and asks Tanu to turn back if she loves him, or he would never come into her life.But Bhoji Reddy's (Vineet Kumar) men come to beat him because he had beaten up his son. He says that if she turns back, he would beat them up; if she doesn't, he would come with them. Eventually, Abhi (Abhimanyu Singh), who was looking for Shiva, takes Tanu with him. Shiva beats them up after a man says that she turned back. Abhi reveals that Tanu was always his luck and wants to marry her. Shiva takes her away at her wedding, leaving a fight between Abhi and Bhoji. They both unite and search for Shiva. Tanu and Shiva go to Goa. In that time, Tanu falls for him. When she is about to propose to him, he fights with some goons to make two lovers unite. As he is seriously wounded, she asks him either she or they. Shiva eventually supports them, which make her emotional. Bhoji kidnaps her. Shiva's father (Posani Krishna Murali) reveals that his son's real name is Ram. Ram and Shiva are best friends, until Shiva commits suicide. Ram learns that he loved a girl who also committed suicide. He hided this because Ram would risk his life to get them married. After hearing this, Tanu realizes her mistake, Bhoji too gives up, and Abhi goes through memory loss. As the film ends, Tanu meets Shiva at a mall.

            Kartikeya (Ravi Teja) is a owner of Kartikeya Industries. He looks after his family very well. His philosophy is "family is most important". They live in Kadapa. There is a goon named Selvam (Sayaji Shinde) who robs Kartikeya's machinery often. So Kartikeya's repeated complaints fall on deaf ear. So Karthikeya challenges that he can solve the case in 2 minutes, so the CI makes him CI for one day to fight Selvam. Kartikeya falls in love with a Choreographer named Pushpa (Raashi Khanna) after few silly talks and fights.One day after Irfan Lala (Freddy Daruwala) kills a student activist in a pub, Kartikeya's sister secretly watches it. She tells it to her brother. So Kartikeya informs this to police based on the picture of the criminal. So the police officer (Ajay) scolds Kartikeya that the criminal died long back ago. On the road suddenly Kartikeya watches Irfan going on road. He chases after him but the criminal gets missed.So kartikeya calls the commissioner of police (Murali Sharma) in Hyderabad and asks for Irfan Lala. There a flashback is revealed.Kartikeya is a dangerous, reckless, zero family emotions and duty dedicated cop who gets transferred from Kadapa to Hyderabad. He goes on a mission to save the daughter of the commissioner who is threatened by a gang to release their leader. Kartikeya goes and kills all of them and retrieves the girl safely.Irfan Lala and his father Rauf Lala (Shahbaaz Khan) are 2 Muslims hoping to win a by-election so that Irfan can become an M.L.A. So Irfan Lala does not let the CM of the state for rallying in his area called Muzaffarpet. Kartikeya tactically secures the CM'S rally and makes it successful and voting is also successful. Divya (Seerat Kapoor) loves him a lot. Her parents fix the engagement but Kartikeya breaks it due to an important mission. Divya gets hurt and she leaves him forever.During a party in an altercation, Irfan kills Shalini(Kaumudi Nemani). Shalini's mother (Suhasini Maniratnam) starts doing it on the road. It is revealed that Kartikeya was once the student of that Divya's mother. He promises to take action. So during a shootout he fatally wounds Irfan. During hospital he searches frantically for Irfan. But his father cools him down saying that Irfan is already dead. This is actually a drama played by both Kartikeya's father (Jayaprakash) and commissioner so that Kartikeya would be close to his family. Listening to all of this Kartikeya decides to draw balance between professional and personal life. So Kartikeya returns and kills Irfan Lala in a cool manner. Knowing this Irfan's father dies. The films ends with Karthikeya meeting Pushpa and requests for forgiving him and they both affectionally hug each other.
