Aisha Davids (65) is a single mother who raised four headstrong sons in the middle-class Muslim suburb of Rylands, Cape Town. Her eldest, Zunaid (48), is a conservative family man trying to cling to his roots whilst in the midst of a messy (and private) separation from his wife Ra-eesah (45) after twenty years of marriage and one teenage son - 18-year-old Moeneeb. Middle child Zaid (40) is a Joburg-based property developer who has tried to get as far away from his humble upbringing on the Cape Flats as possible, shacking up with his girlfriend Gwen, a black diamond with a taste for the finer things in life. 38-year old Yaseen is a moderately successful writer and university lecturer who would rather be dealing with real politics over family dramas, while youngest son, Nur (33) is a loose cannon who has never held down a steady job and is trying to figure out what to do next in the wake of a series of poor decisions. After the tragedy of losing their father two years, the four brothers went their separate ways when their father's death led to a fallout over the family business. Since the rift, Aisha has attempted to bring her boys back together for Eid-al-Fitr and the boys have turned her down. But this year, there's more to it - Aisha has a new lease on life with a new romance, and it's getting serious. Albertus is a retired doctor who met Aisha as a patient, and they quickly fell in love. Now, she's intent on introducing Albertus to her family over the Eid long weekend, as Eid may be the only excuse to get them all under one roof. But of course, the real reason is that she needs the boys' approval if she is to take a new husband...After trying in vain to get her boys to agree to sit around one table, Aisha's best friend intervenes and leaks the news. On the back of this, the brothers can agree on one thing: they're not allowing their 65-year old mother to get married again. Reluctantly, the brothers (and their respective others) agree to make the weekend trip back to their childhood home in Rylands.Of course, things go far from smoothly. While Zunaid is determined to maintain the facade of a happy marriage and keep his impending divorce as far away from his family as possible, all the pretending starts to test the patience of his wife, Ra-eesah. And while Gwen is hinting at an engagement, Zaid is far too busy chasing the trappings of success to notice. Nur shows no signs of ever taking responsibility for his own life, while Yaseen's about to reveal he's lost his faith in Islam. And all this before the Davids' actually find out the true reason for their visit...Over the course of a (very) long weekend, tradition will intersect with the unpacking of skeletons and resentments. And while battle lines are drawn, Aisha will try her best to hold it all together and re-instil the family values and traditions she raised her sons with.
