
            (some of the following content first appeared on realmoviereview.com)Fenton Meiks (Matthew McConaughey) walks into an FBI office late one evening and announces that he has information about a serial killer known as the God's Hands Killer that he will only give to the lead investigator. When Agent Wesley Doyle (Powers Boothe) arrives, Meiks says the killer is his brother, Adam, who has just died. Fenton is cool and distant, and Doyle is obviously skeptical. Fenton admits to stealing his brother's body and an ambulance, to fulfill a promise to bury him in the "rose garden", and Doyle confirms this story by calling a small town sheriff's office. Fenton does not answer Doyle's direct questions about why Fenton knows Adam is the killer. Instead, he begins a long, involved tale about his family history.The small family of auto mechanic Dad (Bill Paxton) and two boys has survived the loss of their mother. Twelve year old Fenton (played by Matt OLeary) is cooking meals and supervising his younger brother, Adam (played by Jeremy Sumpter).In the middle of one night, their father wakes them to say he's received a message from God. An Angel appeared to him, saying that they (Dad and the boys) have been selected to be God's Hands and cleanse demons from the world. He's been told to wait, and God will provide weapons and more information. Adam is excited about being a crime-fighting superhero, but Fenton is alarmed, asking if Dad just dreamt it or imagined it. Dad is sure it was real, but admits he doesn't know how it will all work, and admonishes the boys to keep it secret. He says if they tell, "someone will die."Fenton's hopes that the idea will go away are dashed by subsequent events. Dad is drawn to ordinary-looking items by a beam of light from above, and proudly bears them home as weapons provided by the Angel: an axe, some gloves, a length of pipe. One night Dad comes home excited, showing a list of names the angel gave him in another vision. Fenton still can't believe this is happening. Dad states that these are not people, they are demons, and destroying them is God's will.Fenton hears a sound another night, and looking outside sees Dad carrying a wrapped body over his shoulder. Dad summons both boys to the shed out back, where he drops the woman, alive. She has tape over her mouth, and her hands and feet are tightly bound. Dad removes the gloves, as he's realised that touching a demon with his bare hands will reveal its true nature. He fearfully reaches towards her. When Dad's hand contacts her arm, his body stiffens and he seems electrified, shaking rapidly with an horrified expression. Dad, sure now that she is a demon, takes the axe and swings it high in the air toward her, and there's the sound of it striking home.Dad digs a grave in the rose garden behind the house. Fenton is crying that Dad has killed someone, while Dad is only sad that Fenton could not see her demon nature. Adam insists that he was able to see it, but Fenton says Adam is just lying.At times during this tale, Agent Doyle has pressed the adult Fenton for answers, which he does not always give. Fenton offers to prove it, to show him the rose garden where the bodies are buried. Doyle has him put on cuffs and get in the secured back seat of a car, and begins driving to the site. Fenton continues to tell the tale in response to Doyle's questions.Dad acquires a van and they seek out their next target, an older man who is walking into a grocery store. Dad explains that even in broad daylight, God will protect them from being seen. Dad forces Fenton to take part in the ruse to capture the man: pretending to call a dog out from under the man's car. As Dad knocks the man out, Fenton runs away crying, but cannot sum up the courage to tell the police and turn Dad in for murder.Dad assigns Fenton to dig a massive pit in the backyard, and charges him to pray, to accept God's will for their family's work. Fenton angrily digs for days, refusing gloves for his bleeding hands, and does not find spiritual comfort. They board the sides of the pit and add a roof, then slide the shed on top of it, creating a small cellar ... aware of its purpose, Fenton calls it a dungeon.When the next victim is brought, Fenton refuses to use the axe and flees, running to tell the sheriff what is happening. The sheriff pretends to agree to check, then brings Fenton home to Dad. The sheriff and Dad scoff at the story, but Fenton insists despite Dad's warning glances. Fenton brings the sheriff to the dungeon ... and Dad kills him. Then Dad vomits and cries that Fenton has made him a murderer, because he wasn't supposed to tell. Fenton says Dad is already a murderer, but Dad insists his other victims weren't people and had to be destroyed.As punishment, Dad locks Fenton in the cellar until he is in contact with God. After the first week, Fenton tells Dad there is no God. As his confinement continues, he begins to hallucinate. When he becomes unresponsive, they bring him out, and Fenton smiles and tells his father that he has seen God and understands his purpose now.Fenton is serene and confident as they go to the home of their next victim, a nasty man who is abusive towards his wife. They knock him out and bring him home. Dad performs the bare-handed touch ritual, and nods to Fenton to destroy this demon using the axe. Fenton raises it in the air .... and swings the axe sideways into Dad. Dad falls backwards across the room, the axe blade in his chest. Shocked, emotions race across his face. Adam runs to him, and Dad whispers in Adam's ear before he dies. Fenton turns to the prisoner on the floor and rips the tape from his mouth. The man cries out in warning as Adam runs towards them and swings the axe, completing Dad's intention.Fenton and Adam are burying their father and the demon in the rose garden. Fenton asks Adam to promise that "when you destroy me, you'll bury me here". Adam vows to do so.Agent Doyle expresses confusion - why did Adam promise Fenton to bury him there, when it is Fenton that has confessed to keeping a promise by burying Adam in the rose garden? The man known to us as Fenton Meiks reveals that he has concealed his identity, that he is actually Adam, and has buried his brother Fenton that night. Doyle suddenly realises he has put himself in danger, alone in a garden of graves with a killer. They struggle - and Doyle is knocked to the ground, wounded. As Adam touches him, horrible visions flash past - Agent Doyle killing his own mother with blood spattering everywhere, Dad's first female victim lying in bed with a man whose throat is cut, the older man luring a little girl with candy, then pulling her lifeless body from his car ... The last vision is of the real Fenton's death, at his brother Adam's hands. There is no struggle, they both have accepted the inevitable. Back in the present, Adam swings the family axe, then digs a new grave.At the FBI building the next day, those seeking the missing Agent Doyle are surprised to find that all of the security camera footage of "Fenton" is scrambled and distorted, so that his face cannot be seen. They travel to the real Fenton Meiks' house, and find his body, along with a list of his victims. The last name on the list is Wesley Doyle.One agent is sent to the small town sheriff's office that received Doyle's call at the beginning of the Meiks' interview. The secretary summons the sheriff - a neatly uniformed Adam Meiks. As he leaves, he tells Adam they wanted him to know about his brother before word got out to the press. Adam shakes his hand firmly, then holds on a bit longer, to the agent's confusion. Adam nods and says, "You're a good man." The secretary walks out and stands behind Adam, saying, "Praise God."

            The film opens in a WWII setting over Belgium in the fictional town of Marwen. Captain Hogie (Steve Carell) is flying through the skies, trying to fight off German soldiers until his plane is shot down, causing him to crash-land. His feet catch fire and his shoes are ruined. Hogie then finds a briefcase with women's clothing inside, but he is most partial to the high heels, and he wears them. He walks until he comes across a group of Nazis who proceed to mock him for his shoes. Hogie kicks the Nazi captain in the groin before the others start to gang up on him and beat him. Before they can finish him, a team of gun-toting women emerge and shoot the Nazis dead. Hogie approaches one of the women, Wendy (Stefanie Von Pfetten). In real life, Hogie's creator and counterpart Mark Hogancamp is trying to take a picture of the scene outside, but is interrupted when a truck outside ruins the scene.Mark puts the Wendy doll away along with other Nazi dolls he has deemed "dead". He takes out a doll of a Belgian witch he calls Deja Thoris (Diane Kruger), which is a parallel of Mark's pill addiction. Across the street, Mark sees that a new neighbor, Nicol (Leslie Mann), is moving in. She is approached by her obnoxious ex-boyfriend Kurt (Neil Jackson), and Nicol tries to tell him to go away.Mark lives alone and suffers from PTSD as a result of a violent homophobic beat-down he received from five neo-Nazis (which the doll Nazis are based off of) after telling them he likes to wear women's shoes. He is visited once a month by his Russian caretaker Anna (Gwendolyn Christie). She, like many people in Mark's life, knows of Marwen and the fact that one of the dolls is based off of her. Mark goes through scrapbooks and photo albums to try and get a sense of what his life was before the beating. He was married to a real-life Wendy at one point. Another set of photos show him in rehab with Julie (Janelle Monae), an Iraq vet who lost one of her legs out there.Back in Marwen, Hogie meets a French milkmaid named Elsa (Siobhan Williams). He brings her back to the bar where he reconvenes with Anna, Julie, Carlala (Eiza Gonzalez), Roberta (Merritt Wever), and Suzette (Leslie Zemeckis). Elsa tries to thank Hogie with a kiss for helping her, but she is gunned down by a Nazi in a tower. The other women grab their guns and fire upon the Nazi, who falls from the tower and splits in two. Hogie tries to save Elsa, but she passes on. Moments later, Deja arrives and zaps Elsa into non-existence, terrifying the other women. It is because of Deja's magic that the Nazis also don't stay dead.Mark receives a phone call from his lawyer, who reminds him that the sentencing for his assailants is later that week, and it is imperative that Mark attend and face his attackers. The whole thought of it terrifies Mark and sends him into a panic.Mark goes to a bar where he helps out (the same place where he was attacked), and where the real Carlala works. He asks about Wendy, who also used to work there (she was the one who found him after the assault), and Carlala tells him that Wendy moved to somewhere in California.Later, Mark goes to a doll store where the real Roberta works. She invites him out to dinner later in the week, but he makes excuses for not wanting to go. He picks out a doll that is supposed to be based off Nicol. Roberta offers Mark a limited edition Nazi doll, which starts to trigger Mark's anxiety again. He accidentally presses his hand down on the remote, which raises the volume on the TV just as a news report on the sentencing and Mark's attack is playing. It freaks him out and he runs out of the store without taking anything.Roberta goes to Mark's house to give him the doll, while also noticing that he is in the middle of a scenario in which her top has come off (again). Nicol overhears their conversation and walks to the back to introduce herself. Roberta realizes that this is the same woman Mark named the other doll after. Mark shows Nicol his models in Marwen and explains their roles in his life, as well as how "Marwen" is a combination of Mark and Wendy, although we later find out that Suzette is just based off a porn actress Mark fancies.Mark later makes his Nicol doll and incorporates her into a scenario in which Captain Hogie is taken by the Nazis, so Nicol joins the other women in a rescue mission. They find the Nazis and throw Molotov cocktails at them, burning them to death.Roberta picks Mark up during the week to bring him to the courthouse for the sentencing. As the judge speaks to the attackers, Mark starts to picture everything in a Marwen-esque scenario where the Nazis starts shooting everyone in the place. Mark freaks out and flees the courtroom. His lawyer talks to the judge for a recess, but she postpones the sentencing until later in the month.Mark starts to spend more time with Nicol, falling in love with her. This is paralleled in Marwen where Hogie and Nicol fall in love, but Hogie is too scared to let anyone in his life. Mark visits Nicol's house where she gives him muffins, but the moment is ruined when Kurt comes by to be a dick and taunt Mark over the dolls after he saw them in his backyard.Mark later tries to propose to Nicol with a Purple Heart medal as their Marwen figures did, but Nicol tries to clarify that she only sees Mark as a friend. Without a word, Mark leaves when Nicol has her back turned.The strain from reality becomes too much for Mark, and he contemplates suicide by overdose. This carries on into Marwen where Nicol is shot and is in critical condition. The other Marwen women tend to her just before the Nazis, now led by Kurt's counterpart Major Meyer, start to attack. A battle rages on until Hogie is found by Deja in a time machine (that is supposed to look like the DeLorean), where she appears to try and help, but Hogie finds out she has been a spy for the Nazis and has been keeping them alive. Hogie defies her and says he is free from her power. Meyer tries to shoot Hogie but instead shoots Deja, causing her to blast herself into the future and also causing the Nazis to die. Nicol also turns out to be alive.Mark returns to the courthouse with his friends there to support him. He reads a statement aloud to everyone, but mostly addressing the Nazis. He says that although they took something personal from him, they can no longer hurt him since he has his art and his friends. This even brings some of the neo-Nazis to tears.Mark later attends a photography exhibit featuring his work on Marwen, which he has now renamed Marwencol to honor Nicol. She shows up briefly and smiles at Mark after viewing his work. He then makes plans with Roberta to get sushi.Mark is then seen walking home with his dolls while wearing high heels.There is a final text stating that Mark Hogancamp lives in upstate New York and continues to expand the world of Marwencol. We then see a picture of Mark with his own little Captain Hogie.
    

Welcome to Marwen


            Divorced, ex-rockabilly singer Lynette Hansen [Caroline Rhea] comes home from work to
find her 15-year old daughter Chelsea [Laura Vandervoot] on the phone with her boyfriend,
instead of doing her homework. Thirteen-year old Adam [Matthew O'Leary] is entranced in "The
Return of Count Krelski," and 8-year-old Taylor [Myles Jeffrey] is hiding behind the
couch. Ah, the joys of being a single Mom.As luck would have it, Adam's friend Duffy gets backstage passes to
the Headless Horsemen concert at Saturday night's Harvest Festival, the
very weekend that Adam is grounded for not writing his history essay and
trying to pass off some story from the Weekly Secret tabloid about vampire
hunter Malachi Van Helsing. To make matters worse, Chelsea (who had a hot
date on Saturday night) is also grounded for smarting off. What to do? The
solution is obvious--get Mom a date for Saturday night. Where to find a
date for Mom with only one day to go? Again, the answer is simple. Match
her up with someone from the Personals column in the Weekly Secret. This
sounds like a good one: Continental gentleman, handsome, debonair, suave.
Enjoys long strolls beneath the full moon. Loves adventure, travel, wild animals,

Foodmaster at 8 pm. Now to get Mom there. Easy. Remind her how the family
used to have chocolate chip pancakes together every Saturday morning. Make
her feel guilty enough to go to the store for chocolate chips.
OK. Got her to the store. Now to find Wolfsbane. No, it's not the guy
buying spaghetti. No, it's not the guy buying the cake that says, "Happy
Anniversary." Maybe it's the guy in the long overcoat with the pulled down
hat who appears to be looking for someone? He certainly looks like a
Wolfsbane. Before Chelsea and Adam can link up with Wolfsbane, however,
Lynette bumps carts with someone else--Dr Dimitri Dentatos [Charles Shaughnessy] from Romania.
They get to talking and, not long after that, Mom's got a date with a
vampire...but the only one who knows it is Taylor, because he saw Dimitri
turn into a bat after leaving the store.It's Saturday night. Dimitri has arrived, and Adam has invited him
in. Dimitri has a nice evening planned. First, dinner at Renfield's, then
dancing, and finally a romantic carriage ride in the park.
Meanwhile, Taylor is trying to convince Adam that Dimitri is a
vampire, but Adam only knows about vampires in the movies. If it's a real
vampire, you have to call someone like Malachi Van Helsing, so Taylor
does. Unfortunately, Van Helsing isn't answering his phone, so Taylor
pedals over to Renfield's to bring Mom home. Since that would spoil Adam
and Chelsea's plans, they go after Taylor. Taylor refuses to go home
without telling Mom that Dimitri is a vampire, so Dimitri performs the
Transylvania spoon test to assure Taylor that he is not. On the way out of
the restaurant, however, Adam happens to glance in a mirror and realizes
that Dimitri casts no reflection. He really IS a vampire.
What to do now? First, take Taylor home to the babysitter. Then
follow Mom. She and Dimitri have left the restaurant and gone for a walk.
Since dancing was next on Dimitri's list, Lynette takes him into a
rockabilly place where she used to sing. Next, they go to the Harvest
Festival, all the while it is apparent that Dimitri hates every dance,
every song, every ride, and wants only to get Lynette alone. Fortunately,
Adam and Chelsea are never far behind, until Dimitri catches Adam and
warns him to follow no more or die.Lynette has come to the conclusion that she and Dimitri aren't right
for each other, so Dimitri mesmerizes her, and they leave the festival
together. Chelsea and Adam figure that Dimitri is taking Mom to his lair,
which is the old Mather house out by the lake, because he told them
earlier that he was renovating that place. Adam and Chelsea on the way!Meanwhile, Van Helsing [Robert Carradine] hasn't been able to get through to the Hansen
residence because the babysitter has been tying up the phone, so he goes
over to Taylor's house. Taylor remembers Van Helsing as the guy in the long
overcoat with the pulled down hat from Foodmaster, and Taylor offers to
come along to help look for his Mom. When Van Helsing refuses ("I work alone"),
Taylor hides in the back seat of his car until they're well on the
way...but to where? Well, they don't know where Dimitri and Mom are going,
but they do know where they'll end up...at Dimitri's house, probably some
big old mansion somewhere out by the lake, of course. All the old mansions
are out there. Now Taylor and Van Helsing are on the way.Chelsea and Adam get there first and haul Dimitri's coffin down to
the lake. When Dimitri arrives, he discovers his coffin floating on the
water with Adam sitting on top. Adam tries to make a deal--Mom for the
coffin--but Dimitri grabs Chelsea and changes the deal--the coffin for
Chelsea. Adam has no choice but to return the coffin.
Taylor and Van Helsing finally find the house. Dimitri manages to knock out
Van Helsing. Then he turns on Chelsea and Adam, who start screaming for their Mom.
Lynette comes out of the trance (Love is stronger than any vampire
trance), pushes Dimitri into his coffin, and Van Helsing rivets it shut with silver
nails. Dimitri will be shipped to the South Pole for the winter and then
to Finland for the summer. And tomorrow morning, Van Helsing will join the

Mom's Got a Date with a Vampire


            Susan Morrison (Teri Polo), recently divorced from her husband Frank (John Travolta) who is a struggling boat builder, is getting married to an industrialist who is younger and wealthier. His name is Rick Barnes (Vince Vaughn). Danny (Matt O'Leary), Susan and Frank's 12 year old son is clearly unhappy with his mother re-marrying. The revelation that Susan and Rick are expecting a baby, worsens the situation. Susan asks Frank to allow Rick to go sailing with him and Danny, to help Danny bond with and accept Rick as a stepfather. After the marriage and a brief improvement in Danny and Rick's relationship, Danny begins to dislike him once again. During a game of catch between the two, Rick clearly becomes agitated with Danny's ambivalent playing style and starts criticizing him harshly, as well as dealing some hard throws toward Danny. Danny learns about the new baby when he overhears Susan and Rick talking about it. He's very upset and wants to go talk to his father. Susan tells him no, so he sneaks out of his room and stows away in Rick's Chevy Suburban, as Rick announced he needed to go take care of some business downtown, and that was close to where Frank lived.Rick drives to a small motel and picks up a man named Ray Coleman (Steve Buscemi), who'd earlier attended the wedding unannounced, claiming to be an ex-business associate of Rick. Rick and Ray had also met earlier at the motel and had a discussion about their time in prison together and some money that Rick owed Ray. Rick drives Ray to a brickworks warehouse, telling Ray that he had hidden the money there, but once inside the building, Rick stabs Ray to death and he places the body in a kiln and incinerates it.Danny witnesses all this and was nearly discovered, first by Ray and then by Rick, but he manages to escape outside in the rain and runs to Frank's house. Frank hears the story and takes Danny to the police department to report the murder.Rick is widely considered a pillar of the local community, as he has invested plenty of money in the area, whereas Danny has a history of lying and misdemeanors. Plus, there's no evidence that Ray Coleman existed or had been murdered. So, Rick is not arrested.Frank, however, believes his son because Danny has never lied to him. Frank also had initial suspicions about Rick, stemming from Rick's notable unease around Coleman at the wedding ceremony. Because of Danny's continuing fear of Rick, and the lack of serious interest by police Sgt. Edgar Stevens (Ruben Santiago-Hudson) in any further investigating, Frank does some investigating of his own. He tracks down the motel where Ray Coleman had stayed, he learns of Coleman's criminal past which leads him to Rick's real name and criminal past. Frank learns that Rick's real name is Jack Parnell and he's a criminal who was acquitted while his partners, which included Coleman, were convicted. Rick realizes that Frank has been snooping around and is getting too close for comfort, so he sneaks up on Frank at the boat shop and clubs him unconscious, then sets the boat shop on fire. He accidentally sets his shirt on fire too, burning part of his arm. Frank regains consciousness in time to escape the conflagration. Danny and Susan watch a story about the boat house fire on the news, and Susan is surprised to see Rick in the bathroom treating the burn on his arm. She sneaks back to Danny and tells him to get ready to leave. Rick encounters them on the way out and asks where they are going. Susan tells him that they just learned about the boat shop fire and Danny wanted to go check on his father. Rick offers to drive, but Susan says Danny would prefer he not go with them.Just as Danny and Susan are in the car in the garage, the phone in the house rings. It's Frank calling. Rick answers but Frank hangs up the phone. Rick sees who it was on the caller ID. He rushes out to the garage where Susan is taking to Frank on her cell phone. Rick pulls Susan out of the car and gets in the driver's seat. Susan slams the car door on his arm and she and Danny escape into the house. They lock all the doors and try to call the police, but Rick has disconnected the phone line. He then crashes through a window into the house and struggles with Susan, knocking her down and out.Rick is preparing to take Danny hostage and make his escape, but Frank arrives and they engage in a brawl in the garage. Rick seems to have the upper hand until Danny, even though his hands are tied behind his back, is able to catapult his body into the back of Rick's legs, knocking him off balance so that his next swing at Frank with a crow bar instead hits the electrical fuse box and he is electrocuted.Susan experiences a miscarriage during the struggle with Rick, so there will be no daily reminder for her and her family of the bad experience they all had.
    

Domestic Disturbance


            Catering business owner Julia and her subordinate Paul are traveling to an isolated mansion in New York to cater a small party for Mrs. Perch, and her son Sydney, honoring their family's dead patriarch. Among the guests in the party are the town's mayor Caruthers. Soon, mutated, deadly wasps begin attacking, and killing party guests. In the process, Paul, and Julia realize that the wasps reproduce through stings, causing giant wasps to birth out of humans, and killing the host. Only Paul, Julia, Caruthers, Sydney, Mrs. Perch, and cook Flora escape into the house.With the phone lines dead due to a car crash outside the house, preventing the survivors to call the police, they decide to hide out in the basement. However, Mrs. Perch is revealed to be stung, and a giant wasp births from her body, killing her. Flora is also killed, and Paul, Julia, Caruthers, and Sydney escape to the basement. They decide to escape in the catering van, although Paul has left his keys outside. He manages to retrieve the keys, killing a wasp in the process, although Sydney is also revealed to be stung, and a wasp births from his body, and begins controlling him before Paul, and Julia subdue him.Paul, Julia, and Caruthers begin sneaking around the house to an exit, although Caruthers is killed by a wasp before Paul, and Julia escape into another room. They kill an invading wasp, and make it outside, although Paul is abducted by a wasp, and taken to a nest controlled by the wasp Mrs. Perch birthed. As she is about to have Sydney inject a larvae into Paul's mouth, Julia arrives, and kills him before rescuing Paul, and blowing up the nest. As they drive away, one flaming wasp attacks the car, and Paul plans to ram the car into a tree to kill the wasp, although Julia refuses to leave, and the two crash the car, killing the wasp, and knocking them unconscious.Paul, and Julia awaken sometime later, and the police arrive; they begin having sex in the back of an ambulance. However, it is soon revealed several giant wasps are still alive, which begin killing the police officers, as well as Paul, and Julia, and their fates are left unknown.
    

Stung


            The couple, Jenai and Riley are napping on a bus that is traveling in beautiful open land. They stir and wake up. Riley takes out his camera and starts taking pictures. They arrive at their hotel, put their things away and look out the window. Next they are out site seeing and various other activities while Riley continues to take pictures.
They stop to eat and discuss if they can find film for the camera. Riley talks about his love for taking photos. Once again they go sight seeing. They end up at a church and speak to the Pastor who talks to them for a bit about the history of Iceland. Next they go out with a tour group to the mountainside. All the while Riley is still taking pictures. They walk up to a waterfall and stand under it seemly happy and in love.
Next it is the middle of the night and they are asleep in their hotel room. Jenai gets up and noticed there is a light coming from outside. She gets up and looks out the window. There is a strange light in the sky that flashes into a blinding light that encompasses everything. Jenai looks puzzled.
That morning Riley is up and ready to go. He starts to wake up a sleepy Jenai who doesn't want to get up. They go down and find there is no continental breakfast. They decide to head out. Walking down the street they start to notice that it seems empty. They puzzle over what could be going on. As they continue they start to yell out to anyone that could hear them. Feeling panicked they start looking in the buildings but cannot find anyone. They call their families and no one answers. They end up in a restaurant after walking the whole city looking for other people. The restaurant has TV'son and they begin to flip through the channels. The only programs not working are the news shows. They head back to their hotel room. Janei keeps calling and texting her family. Riley is checking the internet trying to find out what's going on. The websites only have yesterday's news. Riley looks for webcams around the world and they are all empty of life. They leave the hotel in search for other people. They find a car in the middle of the road still in drive. They take the car and their search continues. Jenai questions if this could be the rapture. After searching most of the day they go back to their room and go to bed.
The next morning Riley is once again up and dressed while Jenai is still in bed. He tries to wake her but she refuses to get up. Later they are just in the hotel room discussing possibilities of what happened. Jenai continues to worry the apocalypse has happened and they were left behind. Riley assures her that is not the case. They both finally go to the grocery store and fill up 3 baskets of food. They get their belonging and head to a better place to stay. They end up in a 3 story home. Next they go clothes shopping. They have fun going around trying on things and picking things out. They appear to go about their days enjoying each other's company.
The couple is out in the countryside. Riley is following Jenai and taking photos of her. Jenai walks to a mountainside pool and starts to remove her clothes and gets in. Riley follows suit. They have sex.
They are at the grocery store picking out food. Riley is goofing around in a shopping cart. While skating around in the shopping cart it flips and he falls and he hits the ground.
They get dressed up and eat a romantic dinner. At dinner Janei is mad at Riley and tell him they he needs to be more careful. It cuts to a scene back at the grocery store and it shows that Riley's arm is bleeding. Riley says he's not going to stop living his life. Jenai storms out angry. Riley eventually promises Jenai not to goof around anymore. Jenai says all she wants is to go back home.
After another day of searching they are back at their house and the water no longer works. Riley eats a yogurt out of order and Jenai is angry as they are supposed to eat them in order of expiration date. She is worried about the food lasting. Riley says he will take care of it. Jenai says to just eat the food in the correct order.
Time passes as they venture to different sites. Jenai continues to try and contact her family. Riley starts to build something to pump water.
They decide they want a change of scenery so they take a weekend trip and pick a place to stay out in the mountains. Riley goes out to get wood for the fireplace and encounters a man. They are both in shock. The man asks for some water. The mans name is Nils. He asks for food. The man is in bad shape. They help him inside and give him some food. The man continues to have coughing fits. The man seems to have accepted his fate. Late that night while Riley is asleep, Janei and Nils have a conversation where he confesses that his wife left him. Jenai concludes that we are all alone. The next morning Riley informs Jenai that Nils did not make it. They bury him in the cemetery by the lake with his family. Jenai gets upset and starts to question why they are even burying the man. Riley doesn't understand why she is getting upset. Jenai says that none of it makes any sense. That there has to be someone else. She says it can't just be them and leaves without helping Rile bury Nils. Jenai prepares and heads out in search of other people. She goes around marking houses with red duck tape in an 'X'
Once back at home in the city, Jenai is cleaning up dinner when her computer dings that she has a message. She is hesitant but hope full as she goes to open it. The message is from Riley and Jenai is visibly disappointed. Next morning Riley awakes to find a package on the kitchen table
With his name on it. He goes to the kitchen and for the first time turns on the water pumping machine he has made. He goes to the sink and turn on the faucet. As he waits, he opens the package to find that his pictures are developed. As he flips through the pictures he glances up and sees Jenai's sweater outside and gets concerned. He goes outside to take a closer look at the sweater. He looks from the sweater back to the pictures and realizes something. He tosses the pictures and takes off in the vehicle looking for Jenai. While he looks we see the contraption he made is slowly but surly working to bring water to the house. Riley finally finds their other vehicle where they took the swim by the mountain. He runs to the pool and finds that Jenai has committed suicide and drowned herself. . Rileytakes her out of the water and cries over her body. Back at home the water starts to pour in the sink. Riley then jumps into the water in an attempt to kill himself but after a while comes up for air. He then attempts to carry Jenai back but falls. He leaves Jenai's body where it lie and stumbles back to his vehicle. He drives away in a daze. The movie ends.
