The Color of Friendship


            Phil is a man obsessed with the game of baseball -- the sounds of it, the smells of it, the feel of the bat on the ball, and the men who have made the game great. It's been in his blood since the day he was born to Len Harding, legend in the game. Baseball is his life. At least it used to be.At 33, Phil is still trying to make it to the big leagues and escape the shadow of his famous and domineering father. But his marriage is falling apart, he's broke, and he has just been released by the last team he thought could give him a shot at the bigs. Everyone is telling Phil that his time on the field is over: His agent Benny tells him that, his best friend Johnny tells him that, and even his father tells him that.But Phil's not ready to quit yet, so when Benny tells him of a development camp that just might get him noticed by some major league scouts, Phil jumps at the chance. The only problem is the camp will cost Phil nearly four thousand dollars that Phil doesnt have. When Len refuses to give his son the money, Phil goes on a drug-fueled quest to raise the cash by whatever means necessary. Navigating his way through the dive bars, pawn shops and strip clubs of L.A.'s San Fernando Valley, he's out to prove he's his own man and keep his dream alive. But when the darkness takes hold, it won't willingly let go, and Phil must fight an army of his own demons just to make it out alive.
    

High & Outside: A Baseball Noir


            ALAN (RANDY SCHULMAN) is a successful classical music critic as reflected in his spacious Portland home. His wife SARAH (DIANE DALTON) is an obsessively grieving woman, struggling with an unspoken tragedy, even after months of institutionalized therapy.
Upon Sarah's release, Alan forces Sarah into a trip to Italy. He has already arranged for a house sitter in KELLY (LINDSEY HAUN), young and lonely for commitment and the better things in life. Kelly is quickly joined by her younger brother TIM (RJ MITTE), and her trashy-boyfriend JESSE (BLAKE BERRIS). Its not long before the trio find themselves drawn into a web of disturbing revelations. Jesse suddenly decides to kidnap eight-year-old ADAM (MICAH NELSON) from the supermarket. But not all is what it seems with ADAM. There is nothing of him in the news, and from the moment he arrives, he seems to radiate innocent control over its hapless occupants.
Sarahs depression returns in Italy and Alan suddenly reveals a horrible truth. But that truth about a boy and the freakish accident that claimed his life, proves not to be nearly as disturbing as just who that boy was. Little Adam clearly in control now as Kelly, Jesse and Tim find themselves caught in a netherworld between hallucination and reality. Kelly and Jesse eerily unaware as they lose themselves to the house. Tim's future far less certain in a HOUSE OF LAST THINGS.

Brave New Girl


            American student Tara and her college friends visit Ireland to meet with local resident and friend Jake, and go camping in woodlands surrounding a long-disused children's home. While collecting psilocybin mushrooms for later consumption, Tara eats a death bell mushroom (Galerina) and suffers a seizure after which she experiences dream-like trances in which she begins having premonitions of future events.Around the evening camp fire, with Tara resting in her tent, Jake tells a ghost story of the empty children's home nearby, and of a violent sadistic monk who survived an assault by one of his charges, as revenge for killing his twin brother. Overhearing this causes Tara to have premonitions of the murders of her friends.After a deathly row with his girlfriend and the others, aggressive jock Bluto drinks some of the hallucinogenic tea (supposedly for all to share in the morning) and experiences a trip which culminates in his murder, seemingly at the hands of the rogue monk from the children's home.The following morning, unconcerned by Bluto's disappearance - the others consume the mushroom tea, only to become separated from one another in the woods while under its effects. The three women, arguing and squabbling, get lost until they themselves are split, and Holly and Lisa are violently murdered - in accordance with Tara's continuing visions - after an encounter with local woodsmen Ernie and Bernie.Jake and Troy find Tara on the bank of a river, and tell her to meet them in the abandoned home to summon help. Upon investigating the property, Troy is apparently killed by the monk, and Jake escapes by jumping from a high window, breaking his leg as he lands. Tara finds him and the two flee the haunted scene. Then, while resting his leg, he is murdered.Tara awakes as a Garda helicopter hovers over the camp, and is dispatched into an ambulance as the sole survivor. As her mobile phone rings, she experiences a rapid flashback and realizes that the death bell mushroom caused her to murder all of her friends. She asks the paramedic for help. Everything becomes quiet until we see her bloody hands holding a pair of bloody scissors which suggests that she has killed the paramedic. The film ends with Tara running in the woods.
