In a height of the #MeToo movement, feminism, and the infiltration of stand-up comedy by the politically correct, the life and times of courageous comedian Wendi Starling is examined.Woman, stand-up comic, writer, producer, bipolar, Californian Wendi Starling takes on New York City stages with her very personal, raw, funny and inspiring comedy material, making the big apple her home and becoming one of the most active and funny women in the industry. On her journey, we have complete access to all the ups and downs that come with pursuing comedy in NYC, how she deals with tragic old wounds, and how those wounds start to show up into her material. Her first year in New York City is filled with the hardships of surviving in the tough city, doing several shows every night in all the boroughs, getting to know crowds, waking up at 4 AM to squeeze organic juices for strangers at whole foods, writing TV shows, dealing with
the many crazies on the subway, dating (ugh), eating too much celery, producing a podcast, making new friends, enduring heartbreaks, living with bipolar disorder, quitting her job, polishing her act, producing hit shows in the West Village, acting in plays, being a temp at a high-end fashion office, and getting very few hours of sleep. Yes, it's a lot. Many times you'll find Wendi being approached by audience members after her shows, her unique storytelling speaks to many and touches on delicate subjects, like sexual abuse towards women, sex work, drug abuse and living in New York City.Wendi is a true professional; a comedic star and a woman who despite her troubled past tackles life head-on with one goal - to "kill" on stage. Wendi is a true master of translating tragedy into comedy, her brutal honesty on stage goes hand in hand with her bigger than life ownership of the stage.
