Inherit the Witch

Dave Simms is a Falkland War veteran, in his mid fifties and a survivor of the Battle for Goose Green. Suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and depression, he's lost his job, wife, children, house and more embarrassingly, his dignity. He is now living rough on the cold, dirty streets of Portsmouth City suffering regular flashbacks from his time in that war torn country. It's New Year's Eve and multi-coloured exploding fireworks light up the black night sky. Dave cowers, terrified into the corner of his doorway, his teeth clench in terror within his matted beard, and his hands tear at his face and clothes. More flashbacks to confuse and terrify him! Cowering down in his shabby, dirty clothes, his chest heaves with deep breaths. His only solace is his best friend, his dog, Sally. Every day he and Sal sit outside in the cold streets begging for loose change so he can buy them some food. However, one day they are both attacked and Sal is hurt. After getting her care at a local veterinary surgery; this reveals more serious health issues: a tumour which will cost Dave over £3000 to cover the costs of necessary surgery and medication - but where is he going to get that sort of money? With the pressure of possibly losing his only friend, Dave leaves the city in search of a way to save Sal. Amazingly, unexpected help arrives in the shape of a stranger and his burger van, which is parked in a layby overlooking the city. Will this be the answer to Dave's problems, or will his problems and fears continue to haunt him: or will officialdom intervene and put paid to his future plans and dreams?
