David was born in Portsmouth, on the south coast of England. Whether it was as a 'Clown on Grass' (a reference to entertaining people on village greens, rather than one of the 'Krusty' variety), or his obsession with collecting 'disguises' (various bits of costume, wigs and make-up), David had always wanted to be a performer of some sort or another.After attending the local Highbury Technical College specialist drama course, David became suddenly and painfully aware that roles were few and applicants were many. This led him to 'side-stepping' into magic, a performance skill that he had practised on and off since childhood.He honed his skills at a local holiday centre where for two years, he performed several times a day for a range of audiences. After he left, he built a selection of shows, initially starting with children's shows as a range of characters (including Chungo the Clown, Chester the Jester and Dippy David). Over time, he increased his skill-set to include fire eating, close-up magic and eventually an illusion act called Beyond Belief.Beyond Belief went through a number of iterations until it all came to an end in Spain in the mid-nineties. He scrabbled around for a while, doing a few shows here and there, but the writing was on the wall for his performance career.Fast forward twenty years.David was in Armenia, doing his (now) normal job of building, training and troubleshooting international customer service departments when a chance conversation with an old colleague reopened a career that he'd believed long dead. A 'friend of a friend' had been asking if she knew of a 'Native English actor in Armenia'.This led to an audition for a local TV series - a bold plan to produce Armenia's first horror show - Death Squad/Mahvan Jokaty (2019).
