From his real name Jacques, Daniel Ivernel married the actress and playwright Christiane Lasquin. He is the older brother of director Victor Ivernel. Coming from a family of traders, he is raised by his grandmother, in the locality of Chaumont-en-Vexin (Oise). This is where he attends a performance of the "Bells of Corneville" by a troupe of traveling theater.
