The Broken Ones


            Anna and Jacob are college students. He's a talented young designer from Los Angeles; she's a gifted writer from London but after Anna makes the nervy first move, they seem to connect at the purest level. When they're together, they feel like anything is possible. But when Anna overstays her American visa, breaking the rules of 21st Century travel, she unwittingly drops a wall between them. Forced by law to return to London while Jacob remains in L.A., they discover the perils of long-distance relationships. Like Crazy


            The French-American army-heist action-comedy "American Renegades" is appears is an unintentional recreation of the 1970 Movie Kelly's Hero's with Clint Eastwood. In Kelly's Hero's during World War II a German Colonel is captured by the Americans Ex-Lieutenant Kelly, Clint Eastwood who manages to reach the Colonel, get him intoxicated and learn that he the Colonel is on a secret mission to ship $16,000,000 of gold to a base in France. Kelly is determined to get the gold and plans for himself and a few of his fellow soldiers. "American Renegades" is almost the precise and same story. Yes, using Nazi stolen gold and military personnel planning and instigating a process to get it. Both movies are entertaining movies are primarily with unrealistic plot scenarios. One 1970 and the other 2017.American Renegades is enjoyable and fun because, well, it's fun to watch attractive celebrities be confident and stylish while also doing impossible things, like shooting fancy guns, getting into ridiculous fist fights like John Wayne did in the his fifties military movies for no real reason. In American Renegades it is amazing how the viewer is lead to believe that moving 27000 lbs of gold with just Five Navy Seals and a Bosnian woman waitress which one of the Seals is engaged having a love affair is easy. The Gold is in a Bank Under 150 feet of water and its night time with Grenades being hurled at them from the protagonist general who figured this plot out in a boat above just in time from Lara's brother. He sends three of his men down in the water to stop them but were all killed by the Navy Seals.Now what's fun here is the General J.K. Simmons a career strict officer somehow at the end the movie becomes an ally and can distribute 150,000,000 dollars back to France and get the waitress the highest award that the French can award to a civilian and wears the medal around her neck. This same GENERAL also has a rich brother who takes delivery of the remaining $150,000,000 in gold and sells it and get that money back so the general can distribute the funds to the team and the waitress character Lara has the full $150,000,000 to distribute angst her people in Bosnia for building schools and hospitals.Matt Barnes (Sullivan Stapleton), an American soldier, is convinced by Loverboy Stanton Baker (Charlie Bewley), his second-in-command, that Loverboy's Bosnian girlfriend waitress, Femme Fatale with a Heart of Gold Lara Simic (Sylvia Hoeks), tells him of an underwater cache of 70 year old Nazi gold. Jack Porter (Dimitri Leonidas) and Kurt Duffy (Diarmaid Murtagh), and Ben Moran (Joshua Henry) round out the crew. Simple cast.
Most of the actors here except J.K. Simmons deliver Mostly Undistinguished performances. The viewer, watches and waits but the story never intensifies. Unfortunately, Steven Quale the director contrives, creates and ties several visually uninspired stories such as the no logic fight with a group of British SAS army men.Because the film's cast members are primarily not inspiring or dynamic the movie kind of drags on as the audience is hoping for some excitement. However, the movie is full of old past story plots, fifties beat em up scenarios, fantasy technology and impossible scenarios with strange scenes with Lara's brother. This movie is a movie that the plot with even a better director would not have made much more of a positive impact. The story is old in concept and UN-realistic plots and their delivery makes this at best a mediocre movie.
The Delivery, direction and story line of Kelly's heroes was a much more believable fun believable movie and although this one is actually a remake unintended of that movie this one just does not hit the mark. - Martin Snytsheuvel
    

American Renegades


            A white koala named Johnny is teased about his color so he joins a traveling circus with the help of Hamish, a Tasmanian Devil, and a Higgens, a monkey photographer. He is disappointed that he is part of the freak show instead of the main acts in the big tent. The top act is "Wild Bushman" who takes all the audience from the freak show. Johnny checks out the act and ends up part of the act by accident and saved by The Wild Bushman. While traveling to a new location Their wagon train car becomes unattached and crashes in the desert of "The Outback". On their quest to go to the next location of the traveling circus, "Precipice Lake", they come upon a billabong, the oasis of the Outback. They witness from their cliff location that a pack of dingos (and a thylacine) are chasing a bilby but rescued by a kangaroo, a wombat army, and a vine-swinging female koala talented at throwing a boomerang. Boris, a vulture, reveals that Bog intends on taking over the Billabong. When their rescue goes wrong and the dingos threaten to take over, the rock Johnny is on breaks free and he slides down the cliff and ends up rolling on top of a boulder that chases the dingos away. Hamish introduces the now-famous white koala as "Koala Kid". Miranda, the boomerang expert koala, is not impressed but Johnny watches her from a tree as she practices. When noticed, Miranda breaks the branch he is on with her boomerang and complains about him watching in secret. He tries to lie his way out of that accusation but ends up suggesting he is an expert at the boomerang... and proven wrong when offered to try it himself. Hamish's plan is to take photos of Johnny doing heroic stuff and make him famous as Koala Kid so when they get back to the circus, they can get in the main act rather then the freak show (Hamish will make more money). Bog, a giant crocodile, is not impressed with his gang getting chased by a koala so orders them to capture Koala Kid. In the chase, Miranda's younger sister Charlotte gets covered with cosmetic powder and mistaken for the Koala Kid and kidnapped. The Billabong residents plan to rescue Charlotte but must cross the dangerous "Bungle Bungles" on their way to Precipice Lake. This convinces Hamish to go along with Johnny's conscience and join in the team to rescue Charlotte. During the trip, Johnny accidentally saves the day a few times but Miranda is still not impressed. Johnny and Miranda fall into a sinkhole and tell the rest of them go on ahead. They are being hunted by a giant lizard with a thorn in it's foot. Johnny saves Miranda but soon realizes the lizard is suffering and pulls out the thorn. The lizard becomes friends with Johnny and the two koalas ride it out of the caves. Just as Miranda starts to take a liking to Johnny, Boris the vulture reveals that Johnny is just a freak show act and the "Koala Kid" thing is just a lie. Miranda tells him to leave but finds out that the gang will need to bring a koala to Bog instead of the real Koala Kid and Charlotte will have to do. Miranda offers to take her place. The released Charlotte goes to find Johnny while the kangaroo and the wombat army manage to distract and capture all the gang but the vulture. Charlotte finds Johnny along with Hamish, Higgens and a prophetic peb-leg wombat and they decide to finally help Johnny get what he really wants, Miranda. Johnny calls the lizard he helped and rides off and saves Miranda. Bog shows up and gives chase so they head to the circus hoping the Wild Bushman will be able to tame Bog. Bog proves too powerful until Johnny uses the boomerang to bring down the big top on top of Bog (and himself). Johnny and Miranda (and the befriended lizard) become the main attraction and the bad guys get sold as pets. Johnny asks Miranda if she likes her new life and she is not so sure. Plan B is they ride off into the sunset together.
