            Claiming to be an extraterrestrial from a planet called 'K-PAX' about one thousand light years away in the Lyra constellation, Prot (rhyming with the word "goat", played by Kevin Spacey) is committed to the Psychiatric Institute of Manhattan where psychiatrist Mark Powell (Jeff Bridges) begins to evaluate him as a delusional. However, Prot's unwavering ability to provide cogent answers to questions about himself, K-PAX, and its civilization leads Dr. Powell to introduce him to a group of astrophysicists, where Prot claims to have journeyed to Earth by means of "light-travel" and goes on to display rare knowledge that resolves a puzzle for them.After Prot explains that his people do not live in families, Dr. Powell invites Prot to his home for a July fourth picnic. Prot translates for the dog, eats, learns about Dr. Powell's family problems, and plays with the children until the sprinkler turns on and he freaks out.Prot exhibits considerable influence over the other patients at the Institute, each of whom believes unquestioningly that he is indeed from K-PAX. Prot has explained that he can take one person with him when he returns; thereafter most of the patients at the institute ask to be taken to K-PAX.Upon learning that many of his patients expect to leave Earth on July 27, Dr. Powell confronts Prot, who explains that it is a predetermined date. However, Powell believes this to be a significant date in Prot's life, a day on which he suffered a severe psychological trauma. Powell then decides to subject Prot to regression hypnosis, which works well. Using information gained from these sessions, Powell figures out that Prot is actually Robert Porter, a man presumed dead since attempting suicide after his wife and daughter were murdered in 1996.On July 27, what is thought to be Prot is found lying catatonic under his bed, and one of the other patients is also missing. The missing patient is never found, and Prot does not return. The other patients do not recognize Robert as he is being wheeled out of the room.

            May-Alice Culhane (Mary McDonnell), a soap opera actress, is injured in a Manhattan street accident which leaves her paralyzed from the waist down. Bitter and self-pitying, she returns to her long-empty Louisiana home. There she spends her days and nights lying on a couch, watching TV and drinking wine. She runs through several live-in nurses, none of whom she gets along with.Finally the agency sends a new nurse, sullen and cold Chantelle (Alfre Woodard). Chantelle soon makes it clear she won't put up with May-Alice's drinking and laziness, and they have frequent arguments. Through all this a series of visitors to the house provide insights into May-Alice's life, while May-Alice learns from a vaguely menacing stranger that Chantelle is a recovering cocaine addict.May-Alice and Chantelle finally begin to warm to each other. May-Alice quits drinking, follows Chantelle's physical therapy regime, and takes up photography. Chantelle begins an affair with a local horse trainer, while May-Alice enjoys the increasing attentions of a married handyman she knew as a teenager.Eventually May-Alice finds out that Chantelle has a young daughter, Denita, who lives in Chicago with her legal guardian, Chantelle's father. He brings Denita down for a visit and, happy with Chantelle's progress, says he will send Denita down for the summer if Chantelle shows she can stick with the job. May-Alice, in the meantime, has been offered her New York job back, but the role is an insulting exploitation of her disability, and she turns it down. In the end, Chantelle and May-Alice decide they need each other more than they realized, and agree to continue their living arrangement.

            A Bit About The Storyline..Hollis Woodss search for a family is a perpetual journey, as she moves from one foster home to another until she meets the Regan family and two rather quirky elderly women who teach her a lot about love, friendship, and belonging. Hollis Woods was an infant when she was abandoned and for 12 years she has been transferred from one foster home to another. To the social agency, she is a mountain of trouble because she skips school and runs away, even from the Regans, a family willing to give her a real home. When she is placed with Josie, an elderly artist who is becoming very forgetful, Hollis begins to feel needed and doesnt ever want to leave this eccentric old woman who knows a lot about friendship and love. Fearful that the social agency will take her from Josie, Hollis plans a winter escape. 
This time she takes Josie with her and returns to Branches, the summer home that belongs to the Regans. All along, Hollis longs for her life with the Regans, and records every special moment with them in a gallery of pictures. Written by Dani of Etoile Jodelle

            Set in the early 1970s in a racially mixed New York City neighborhood, nine-year-old Troy (Zelda Harris) and her older brothers Clinton (Carlton Williams), Wendell (Sharif Rashed), Nate (Chris Knowings), and her younger brother, Joseph (Tse-Mach Washington) are introduced as their father Woody (Delroy Lindo) is blowing a horn to call them in from playing to eat dinner. Their mother, Carolyn (Alfre Woodard) is introduced as well.Dinner takes place during which we find out that the Carmichaels' next-door neighbor, "Tony Eyes" (David Patrick Kelly) seems to be somewhat of a nuisance to the family, which includes continuously singing while they are eating dinner. During the dinner, Carolyn tells the children to clean the kitchen before they go to bed as she is going out with Woody for the night and the children need to start pulling their own weight. Troy urinates in her brothers' room while she is asleep, but Nate wakes her up. Carolyn comes home and comedically wakes all of the children up out of their sleep because the kitchen was not cleaned. There's some argument naturally on the part of the children to which Clinton says, "I'd rather have a father than a mother any day". The neighborhood junkie drug dealers are introduced: Snuffy (Spike Lee) and Right Hand Man (N. Jeremi Duru), who are glue sniffers.Tommy La La (José Zúñiga), Clinton, Nate and a couple of their neighborhood friends are sitting on the Carmichael stoop while listening to the radio and playing a baseball board game. Tommy La La takes a bottle and throws it at the door of Tony Eyes while yelling homophobic slurs. This starts an argument because Clinton says the Carmichael children always get blamed for the mess on his property. The argument ends as Vic Powell (Isaiah Washington), a Vietnam war vet, comes home and greets everyone. Vic is renting the upstairs apartment from the Carmichaels. Troy and her friends are sitting on a stoop at the same time having on and off arguments before deciding to jump-rope. Some neighborhood boys lure a cat away from a doorstep while the girls are jump-roping. One kid swings the cat over his head by its tail and throws it on one of the girls. This starts another argument and shoving match between the girls and the boys. Troy singles out one the boys, Greg (Peewee Love) for being a "welfare case" and calls him a "stupid ass dummy."Nate is sitting at the table with Carolyn standing over him waiting for him to finish his black-eyed peas. Woody comes home with ice cream and sand cake for dessert. Nate is happy until Carolyn tells him that he isn't getting any dessert until he finishes his black eyed peas. This causes his brothers to make fun of him and rub it in his face telling him how good their cake is. Joseph's cake is eaten by the family dog Mutley, so Nate's piece of cake is split in half by Woody to share between Nate and Joseph. Carolyn, tired of standing at the table waiting for Nate to eat, tells him one last time to finish his black-eyed-peas. Nate finally takes a bite of them and promptly throws up, which causes everyone runs from the table. Wendell is taking the trash out and decides to take some of it in Tony Eyes' area.Carolyn comes out to see what is wrong, and Tony Eyes tells her that Wendell and her kids are always throwing trash into his area. Carolyn responds by telling him that he and his home are nasty. The arguments continue as the neighborhood kids jump in. Tony Eyes is still yelling and arguing when Vic comes downstairs and tells him to shut up. In anger, he punches Tony in the face and goes back into the house. Troy sneaks out and goes to the corner store to get candy. While in the store, she is intrigued by a woman (RuPaul) and one of the store owners dancing erotically in the store. As Troy leaves the store to walk back home, she sees Vic getting arrested for punching Tony Eyes.Troy gets back home and her brothers bully her into sharing her candy. Clinton and Wendell want to watch the Knicks game but because they are outnumbered, they are stuck watching The Partridge Family which they dislike. Troy and her friend, Minnie (Tiasha Reyes), go to the neighborhood store where Minnie steals an ice cream bar by putting it under her shirt and walking out. Troy tries to do the same thing with a bag of potato chips, but she gets caught. The boys are sitting in Troy's room watching the Knicks game while Troy is in the bathroom stuffing her shirt with toilet paper. Woody and Carolyn are downstairs arguing because Woody's music is not providing for the family and Carolyn, a schoolteacher is the sole provider. They are also arguing because Woody caused the family to have bounced checks.The argument escalates as Carolyn yells upstairs for the children to turn off the TV because it is a school night. She charges upstairs with Woody following and turns off the TV. A defiant Clinton argues with Carolyn and turns on the TV. Carolyn grabs him up for disobeying and disrespecting her and Woody grabs her and carries her out of the room. Everyone is in on the fight as Woody is dragging Carolyn down the stairs and Nate is jumping on Woody's back. The other children have a hold of Carolyn pulling her in the opposite direction and Carolyn hurts her ankle in the struggle. Woody yells and everyone gets quiet as he expresses his need to respect for his work in the house. Carolyn kicks him out of the house.Woody comes over the next morning and brings flowers for Troy to give to Carolyn. Troy suggests that Woody ask Carolyn out on a date. Troy brings the flowers to Carolyn, who is still in bed and hurt, and asks Carolyn for a quarter. The next scene shows Troy searching the house for money and she goes into Clinton's room and finds his buffalo nickels and takes them all for cash, as well as taking his Knicks tickets for starting the fight between their parents. With the stolen money, Troy buys herself and Minnie ice cream cones. Clinton comes home and upon discovering his tickets are gone confronts Troy about them. She gives them back but also tells him that she spent "those funny looking nickels of yours also." After coming in from playing outside, Troy is confronted by Carolyn about the nickels to which Troy lies to her twice. While Troy is in the bathroom, Greg comes to Carolyn who is sitting by the window and tells her all the mean things that Troy has been saying about him.Troy has to apologize to him for all the ugly things she said about him. Carolyn sends Troy to the store to get dinner with food stamps. Troy, embarrassed, doesn't want to go. In the store, Tory steals a package of meat and 6 cloves of garlic by hiding them in her shirt so she won't have to use food stamps. She witnesses a neighborhood girl, Peanut (Kewanna Bonaparte) getting caught for shoplifting. As Troy leaves, she is attacked by Peanut, but the grocer breaks up the fight and Troy heads for home, without the food stamps. That night, Troy has a nightmare that Snuffy and Right Hand Man make her get high. She wakes up in a sweat with Woody wiping her face, assuring her that everything is going to be ok. Woody and Carolyn get back together and they all decide to go on a trip to get out of the neighborhood but as they are leaving a worker from Con Ed comes by to shut off the electricity because the bill is unpaid. The trip is postponed and because of the situation, the family has to use candles for light.A few days later, the family leaves Brooklyn to take Nate and Troy down South to stay with relatives. Troy stays with her cousin Viola (Patriece Nelson), who was adopted by Uncle Clem (Norman Matlock) and Aunt Song (Frances Foster). Troy doesn't want to stay, but she does it to appease her mother. Troy eventually starts having fun with Viola despite a dislike of Aunt Song and her beloved dog, Queenie. On Troy's 10th birthday, she gets a letter from Carolyn (who narrates it) telling her about the happenings in the neighborhood since the weeks she's been away. After reading the letter, Troy decides she wants to go home. Meanwhile, Aunt Song has been looking for Queenie all day, but to no avail. Later that day, Troy has a birthday party. Upset because she hasn't found Queenie, Aunt Song snaps at two of Troy's birthday\sleepover guests as she pulls the couch out for them to sleep on. When she opens the couch, a dead Queenie (likely killed by Viola) pops out which deeply upsets Aunt Song. Troy later goes home and is picked up from the airport by her Aunt Maxine (Joie Lee) and Uncle Brown (Vondie Curtis-Hall).Aunt Maxine and Uncle Brown don't tell Troy at first how Carolyn is, but Troy figures out that Carolyn is ill. She visits Carolyn in the hospital, who is weak and ill from cancer. Later, Woody takes Troy home and Troy decides to clean & mop the kitchen without being told. Later that evening, Woody tells the kids that Carolyn's condition is not well and she has to stay in the hospital for more tests. The boys cry, but Troy remains silent. In the next scene, it is presumed that Carolyn succumbed to her illness. Nate and Joseph are walking up some stairs with Troy following behind, singing a Christian song she learned from Viola. Joseph says, "I hope we don't have to dress up for Mommy's funeral."As Troy watches television, Aunt Maxine comes in with clothes and shoes for Troy to wear at the funeral. Troy doesn't say anything until Aunt Maxine tries to coax her into putting on the clothes. Troy's response is that her mother would never let her wear polyester. When Woody tells Troy it is time to go to the funeral, Troy tells him she is not going. Woody has a talk with Troy, convincing her to go to church because it's what Carolyn would've wanted.At the house gathering after the funeral, Clinton and Troy have a moment when he tries to get Troy to talk, and holds her hand because she's unresponsive to everyone else around her. Joseph comes inside crying, saying that Snuffy and Right Hand Man are making fun of him saying, "His mama's dead, his mama's dead" and they robbed him. Following her mother's wishes to protect her younger brother, Troy goes outside with a baseball bat and hits Snuffy in the head. When Snuffy asks her why she did it, Troy tells him, "I'm tired of you and Right Hand terrorizing the neighborhood. Go sniff on your own block."In the middle of the night, Troy is sleeping, but she is restless as she dreams she's hearing her mother's voice shouting. She goes downstairs to tell her mother to please stop fighting only to find that it is her father who is making a lot of noise trying to kill a rat in the kitchen. Woody tells her that her mother is gone and that it's ok to cry. Troy runs to the bathroom and throws up as Woody comes into the bathroom to console her. Troy tells him that she wants to stay with him and not move away with her Aunt Maxine and Uncle Brown. Troy asks Woody if Carolyn was in a lot of pain, and he tells her that she was. Troy states, "Then it's good that she died so she wouldn't suffer anymore.There are scenes of the neighborhood continuing to play much like the beginning of the movie. Troy is sitting in Carolyn's chair with Joseph sitting on her while she combs his hair the way Carolyn did. Then, Carolyn is sitting the stoop seemingly narrating a letter she wrote to Troy telling her she can't believe that she's 10 now, that she misses her very much, and how she's proud of the way she's growing up. The memory is interrupted when the neighborhood kids come to the window and asks Troy if Joseph can come out and play. Troy tells him not to go far because dinner is almost ready. The last scene is of the neighborhood being watched by Troy as she's looking out the window much like Carolyn used to do.

            Single, drug-using mom Loretta Sinclair (Alfre Woodard) lives in a rough Chicago neighborhood with her mother, Rosa Lynn (Mary Alice) and two children, 11-year-old Thomas (Mpho Koaho) and little autistic Tracy (Kulani Hassen). Afraid that her daughter's situation will deteriorate, Rosa Lynn decides to send her daughter and grandchildren to spend the summer with her cousin Earl (Al Freeman, Jr.) in the Mississippi delta.Before their departure, Rosa Lynn pawns a family heirloom candelabrum they refer to as "Nathan", the name of their slave ancestor. Exiting the pawn shop, Loretta throws the pawn ticket in a wastebasket, but on a whim retrieves it; perhaps she thinks she can redeem Nathan later for drugs.The three are welcomed in rural Mississippi by Earl, a man of few words yet wise, where he lives with his senile wife Annie (Esther Rolle) who is cared for by a housekeeper. Earl puts Loretta to work in his chicken joint, where she understandably has a hard time keeping up with the work and the demands of a schedule.Eventually they all bloom, with Thomas teaching Loretta enough arithmetic to be able to waitress and thus make more in tips; Loretta becoming friendly with a nice local customer named Carl (Nigel Shawn Williams), and Tracy actually saying her first words.While a few calamities ensue, one involving Earl teaching Thomas about guns and the other when Annie wanders outside unsupervised, by the end of the summer the initially sullen Loretta decides to stay on and make her life in the delta. In the final scene, Nathan is redeemed and Earl tells them all of their proud family heritage.

A Step Toward Tomorrow


            INT. SHERRIF'S OFFICE - DAY - HEIDI is sitting in the Sheriff's office with a jar of jelly beans and a desire to escape out the window as another DEPUTY stands guard. COUNTY SHERRIF ROY FRANKLIN enters and proceeds to grab a coin, which he asks Heidi to call. She hesitates but eventually acquiesces and gets it right. He does this a total of ten times and she gets them all right. The Deputy is spooked but Heidi knows that it means BERNIE called, a fact Roy confirms after commenting that she's going home with him instead of being booked as a runaway. Heidi remarks she's not a psychic and that she didn't run away.Heidi is next seen at a BUS TERMINAL in RENO, NEVADA and eventually asks a PUNKED-OUT GIRL to buy her a ticket since she is underaged. The Punked-Out Girl concedes after. small spat and asks where Heidi got all her money from - as it is all silver dollars. Heidi simply replies that she's lucky. We learn Heidi is traveling to LIBERTY, NEW YORK. Heidi sees an opportunity and asks ALICE WILINSKY, an elderly woman with her hands full, if she'd like any help so that she can proceed in her travels inconspicuously. Alice agrees and Heidi boards, though the Bus Driver is suspicious.Heidi winds back the clock a few days where she is in the KITCHEN with Bernie and is doing schoolwork. They are interrupted by MAMA and traverse through Bernie's cluttered 'hoarder' home while discussing future lesson plans, then they transition into a SEPARATE APARTMENT that is open and colorful. Mama is inside - she is Heidi's mother and suffers from a mental disability which severely limits her vocabulary, nevertheless Heidi's relationship with her blossoms.Outside, Heidi is speaking with ZANDER - a neighbor of similar age who appears far more childish. They are speaking about ZANDER'S FATHER and his heroics when Zander crushes an ant. At the same time Bernie is showing Mama how to open cans in the kitchen, and Bernie's love for her becomes very deep and apparent. Outside again, Zander and Heidi overhear an argument from his parents inside that doesn't end pleasantly. Heidi is silent and Zander thinks she's judging him, so he runs off and jabs at her family's lack of normalcy. Later at night Heidi is making one of her LISTS when she asks Bernie why people lie. Bernie explains people lie because the truth is too hard to handle.Back onto the BUS, Heidi and Alice are handling an array of kittens as Alice rambles about her large family and the impressive amount of other Alices in it. Heidi is obviously not very enraptured by the conversation but pays attention either way, and lies when Alice asks when her birthday is - since Heidi isn't sure herself.In the APARTMENT Heidi tries to vacuum but it incapable since it sends her Mama into a frenzy. The VACUUM BREAKS and Bernie tries to fix it but comes up short on money, forcing Heidi to take action. Heidi comments on Bernie's AGORAPHOBIA (fear of leaving one's house) and how it stems from her father dying of a heart attack years ago. Together Heidi, Mama, and Bernie practice going to the bus stop inside their home so they can get the vacuum fixed. Heidi tries to proceed to accomplish the same thing in public but ultimately fails; despite Mama's radiance and excitement, as soon as the bus approaches she has another frenzy and Heidi is forced to return home. Bernie comforts Mama as she repeats a phrase over and over by reliving what Bernie later tells Heidi is a MEMORY. Mama whispers 'SOOF', which sparks more confusion, and Bernie tries to explain the past again but Heidi is not satisfied and wants to know more than Bernie can provide.On the Bus Heidi is making another list aside a sleeping Alice. This list is titled THINGS I'VE NEVER SEEN BEFORE, to which she adds MY FAMILY. Heidi pulls from her pocket a tiny souvenir teaspoon and tries to go to sleep.Mama is having a particularly bad headache as Heidi presses Bernie for more answers about her Mama but still turns up empty-handed. Heidi adds 'soof' to her Mama's list of words, making it twenty-three long. Later Heidi presses her mother on what 'soof' is and becomes progressively more irritable. When Bernie chastises Heidi, she storms off and Bernie follows. Heidi proceeds to tear open the drawers and pull out random objects as she asks Bernie what her real name is, what her mother's real name is, and who pays the rent. All of these questions have the same answer: I don't know. Mama picks up the discarded items and Heidi discovers a roll of film that she sends to be developed and eagerly waits for it to arrive. When it does, Bernie and Heidi find a wealth of pictures that include Heidi's Mama, her grandmother, and some other people in a hospital setting. Heidi has more questions than ever and wants to wake Mama from a nap, but Bernie won't allow it. This sparks an argument as Heidi tries to look for more answers and criticizes Bernie's maternal fear since she's not actually Heidi's mother. When Heidi tries to apologize Mama wakes up and Heidi presses her for information with growing pressure. Bernie demands Heidi stop and she stomps off after tearing the picture in half. That night Bernie tries to comfort Heidi but Heidi resolutely states that she needs answers even if Bernie cannot provide them.At a DIFFERENT BUS STATION Heidi grabs a burger and learns that her hometown is in the midst of a storm. She tries to call home because she knows her Mama is afraid of storms but the call doesn't go through. At home the power goes out as Bernie tries to assuage Mama's fear. Earlier a quick moment flashes that shows Heidi taping the picture she tore back together and asking Bernie what the sign in it says. This leads to Bernie calling HILLTOP HOME but she is either put on hold or promised a call back from THURMAN HILL that never comes. Heidi insists they go to it and persuades Bernie to try to leave the house, but she collapses one step outside the door and Heidi is forced to employ Zander's help in getting her back inside. This leads Heidi to the conclusion that she must go alone, so she packs and gathers everything for the journey. In DOWNTOWN RENO Heidi remarks on her LUCK and employs it to win in her final attempt at a slot machine, which gives her all the money necessary to begin the trip.Once more alongside Alice on the bus, Heidi digs into a pie the older woman made her with vivaciousness. Alice asks Heidi about her family and she lies, saying it's big then commenting about how she's named after a movie with Shirley Temple in it. Alice asks more questions that plunge Heidi into a hole as her lies spiral out of control. Alice eventually exposes Heidi for lying and when returning to her seat, Heidi is now alone since Alice moved multiple seats forward. At home Bernie is comforting Mama when Heidi calls but fails to make a solid connection. In a BAKERY at another stop Heidi purchases a cake and exposes her money to TWO PUNKS who later rob her of all of her coins. On the bus the NEW DRIVER questions Heidi who is struggling to spin a convincing tale, but the previous bus driver who was suspicious of her confirms her story and she is allowed on. When she arrives in Liberty, Heidi calls Bernie and expresses her feelings of fear and being lost. Bernie tries to convince Heidi to come home but she hangs up and eventually catches a ride in a Cab by guessing how many jellybeans were in the jar on his dash.Heidi arrives at Hilltop Home Heidi and overhears ELLIOT say Soof when he sees her. RUBY, Elliot's caretaker, expresses momentary delight that Heidi might be the long-sought after Soof but their hopes are crushed when he gets closer and confirms it's not her. Thurman Hill enters and when Heidi explains who she is he demands Elliot and Ruby leave with an unfamiliar coldness. He is furious at Heidi and accuses her of wanting more money as well as slandering her with other confusing remarks. Elliot has a tantrum that tears Mr. Hill away and Heidi sees an officer in the doorway, which throws her into a sprint.The story resumes to the first scene with Sherriff Roy. They discuss Heidi's peculiar luck and then Roy brings Heidi back to his house for dinner. His wife is Ruby from Hilltop Home, and she realizes that the man in Heidi's pictures with her mom is Elliot and Mr. Hill. Heidi calls Bernie and tries to calm her panicking Mama but is mostly unsuccessful. The next day Heidi wakes up to find Roy has gone up to Hilltop Home without her. In her rush to join them Heidi searches through the drawers only to find unused baby clothes, to which Ruby explains that she'd had multiple miscarriages. Heidi apologizes and has breakfast with Ruby when Roy returns to bring Heidi back to Hilltop. As Heidi is leaving Bernie tries to suddenly convince her to come home over phone because of Mama, but Heidi is persistent and goes to Hilltop anyways. There she finds Mr. Hill with his lawyer, DIETZ, who starts explaining things but only confuses Heidi further and increases her impatience. When she demands answers, Mr. Hill asks everyone else to leave and says he knows everything about her.Eyes gleaming with terror, Bernie is one the phone with an EMERGENCY CONTACT and is trying to calm down Mama. Bernie waits for the EMTs but Mama only whispers 'soof' then closes her eyes.Mr. Hill explains the pictures with names, revealing her mother's true name is SOPHIA DEMUTH and that he only accepted her into his home as a charity case per request of Sophia's mother. Elliot, Mr. Hill's son, became her best friend and eventually fathered Heidi, though upon news of Sophia's pregnancy, Sophia's mom demanded Mr. Hill give them money - therefore facilitating the endless flow that had allowed Heidi and Mama to live in Reno. He was not to contact them and agreed to the conditions. Heidi also learns her grandmother is dead.Desperate, Bernie tries to flag down the EMTs but they are going in the opposite direction. As they continue to get farther away Bernie is forced to face her fear and leaves the apartment, going far enough to get the EMTs and urge them upstairs to get Mama. Bernie crumbles to the ground in a heap. Back at Hilltop, Heidi learns her grandmother was hit by a bus shortly after Heidi's alleged birthday in February. In Reno Bernie gets back to her feet and returns to the apartment. Mama looks peaceful and whole as the EMTs draw a sheet over her face.Outside on a swing Heidi is pushed by her father, Elliot, as she remarks upon her discovering her family and her mother's name. Mama couldn't pronounce Sophia so she always said So B. It, and Elliot always said Soof. Later, Heidi tries to share all of this exciting information with Bernie, who is unreceptive. Ruby tells Heidi what has happened and Heidi breaks down. She starts a new list, titled - THINGS I'LL MISS ABOUT MAMA - with one lone entry: EVERYTHING. She tears everything out of the notebook and shreds each page by hand. Roy tries to comfort her by offering a distraction and speaking with her, and Ruby offers to give Heidi a haircut. Heidi threatens to hurt herself as Ruby comforts her. At the burial of her mother, Heidi reflects on the names of her Mama and shares that Soof wasn't her name, it was what she called love. Mr. Hill offers Heidi pictures and files on her Mama, as well as the opportunity to be integrated into the family. Later, as she makes another list, Ruby and Roy confront Heidi about an opportunity for her to join their family. She calls Bernie but is unable to come to a sure conclusion, since she's just discovered a whole new side of family in Liberty. Heidi remarks that the trip was about family as she returns home to Bernie in Reno.Back home, happiness and change find Heidi in far higher spirits. She gets off the bus from school with Zander and returns home to a new Bernie: one who can actually leave the house. Heidi shares she left her luck in Liberty for Roy and Ruby, who now have a baby. Supper is served in a small two-person family with endless love between them, and Mama watching from above.

            Pierre Dulaine (Antonio Banderas) is a renowned professional ballroom dancer, who teaches ballroom dancing at his Manhattan dance studio. After seeing a car being vandalized by a student outside an inner-city high school, Pierre Dulaine walks into the school to talk to the Principal (Alfre Woodard). She has no time for him and to get rid of him she throws him a challenge, that he could make a difference by working with her worst students. Pierre Dulaine accepts the challenge and volunteers to teach ballroom dancing to a variety of students that have been sent to detention. The students are very skeptical of Pierre Dulaine, especially, when they find out that he wants to teach them ballroom dancing. All they know is hip-hop dancing. Dulaine's commitment and ability to change and adapt dance moves, eventually bring the student to his side.             In a dinosaur breeding ground, a Carnotaurus triggers a stampede after being discovered by a young Parasaurolophus. An Iguanodon mother is forced to abandon her nest which is trampled by the pursuing predator. The only surviving egg is snatched by an Oviraptor, journeying on through several terrains before landing on a tropical island populated by prehistoric lemurs. Plio; the daughter of their patriarch Yar, names the hatched baby Aladar and raises him despite Yar's initial objections.Years later, a fully grown Aladar and the lemurs take part in a mating ritual, where his friend; Zini is unable to achieve a mate. Moments after the ritual ends, they are interrupted by a meteor shower and a gigantic meteoroid crashing into the Earth. The explosive blast wave destroys the island and annihilates nearly all the lemurs. Aladar, along with Plio, Yar, Zini and Suri, flee and survive by leaping across the sea towards the mainland. They look back at their ruined home and mourn for the loss of their loved ones before deciding to move on.While crossing deserted wastelands, the group are attacked by a pack of Velociraptors. After escaping from them, the family encounter a massive herd of dinosaurs led by Iguanodons; Kron the leader and his lieutenant, Bruton. The herd are on a journey to the "Nesting Grounds" a sanctuary left untouched by the devastation of the meteor. After the herd rest for the night, Aladar and the lemurs befriend Baylene, an elderly Brachiosaurus; her friend Eema, a Styracosaurus; and Url, her pet dog-like Ankylosaurus. The next morning, the herd reach a seemingly dried lake which they have relied on in the past. Kron orders the herd to move on until Aladar and his friends discover water trapped under the surface, thereby saving the herd from dehydration. Kron's sister Neera impressed by Aladar's compassion begins to have a relationship with him. Meanwhile, two Carnotaurus have been following the herd's tracks for days and begin stalking them for food. Bruton and a scout search for water in a canyon, but are ambushed and attacked by the Carnotaurs. Bruton manages to escape and warns Kron about the predators, panicking the entire herd. Kron picks up the pace and evacuates the herd, leaving Aladar, the lemurs and the elderly dinosaurs behind while the Carnotaurs are in pursuit some distance away.During a rainstorm, the group encounter Bruton who was left behind by Kron, before taking shelter in a cave. Shortly after, the Carnotaurus enter the cave and attack the group, but Bruton sacrifices himself by causing a cave in which kills one of them. The surviving Carnotaur leaves the cave swearing vengeance for its dead companion. Aladar and his friends escape and venture deeper, but reach a dead end. They smash through the obstacle and arrive at the Nesting Grounds on the other side. While exploring, Eema finds a large wall of boulders blocking the original entrance to the valley. Realizing that the herd will never make it over, Aladar rushes off alone to rescue them, although he is pursued by the Carnotaurus along the way. Aladar soon catches up with Kron, Neera, and the herd, suggesting a safer way to the valley, but Kron selfishly refuses. Kron loses his temper and fights Aladar, but Neera comes to the latter's aid. The herd eventually turns back against Kron and abandons him, deciding to let Aladar lead them to the Nesting Grounds instead.As they prepare to leave, Aladar, Neera, and the herd find themselves cornered by the enraged Carnotaurus. Aladar rallies Neera and the herd to stand together and they drive back against the predator. The Carnotaurus then chases after Kron, who attempts to climb over the cliff himself. When Kron reaches a sheer drop, he realizes that Aladar was right and tries to defend himself against the Carnotaurus but is fatally wounded. As it prepares to finish Kron off, Neera saves her brother but is quickly overwhelmed. Aladar then fights the Carnotaurus until the cliff underneath breaks apart, sending the predator plummeting to its death. Kron then dies from his wounds.Now as their new leader, Aladar and Neera lead the herd to the Nesting Grounds. Sometime later, a new breed of dinosaurs hatch, among them are Aladar and Neera's children. The lemurs find more of their kind and the group all begin a new life together in their new home.

            The wonderfully irascible Alvin, unfogettably portrayed by the great Oscar Nominee Seymour Cassel, correspondingly makes life hell for everyone else around him as a terminally ill widower confined to his hospice bed. Reach for Me explores the age-old quandary of how we greet our final days-- and who will be there with us at the end. This is a stirring, life-affirming drama, with lots of comic relief an an excellent ensemble cast including Oscar Nominee Alfre Woodard and Golden Globe Nominee Adrienne Barbeau. The bright-shining love affair between Alvin's young roomie Kevin and his girlfriend Sarah (played by Johnny Whitworth and Lacey Chabert in beautifully crafted performances refreshingly free of false sentimentality) helps Alvin forgive himself and finally discover love that he never knew was so close at hand.The Story
Elderly Alvin is rather content with his new living arrangements, despite the fact that they are a hospice facility. He enjoys agitating his nurse Evelyn, and jokes with his roommate Elliot.One night, after exaggerating the sex they once knew in their younger days, Elliot dies while Alvin helplessly watches.Alvin is assigned a new roommate, Kevin, a young man with terminal cancer. Alvin quickly grows jealous of the attention Evelyn gives to Kevin, and rather harshly rebuffs his attempts to be friendly.Alvin then becomes suspicious when a young woman visits Kevin at night, appearing to perform sexual favors. Alvin later discovers that the young woman is Kevins wife Sarah, and not a prostitute as he had assumed. Through dreams, Alvin imagines the frustration his wife had with him.Even though Kevin cant eat (he has a feeding tube), Sarah brings him a nice Italian meal and describes it to him while Alvin listens. Alvin momentarily envisions himself having the dinner with his wife, then snaps out of the vision and swears at Evelyn, who becomes furious at him.That night, with Sarah by his side, Kevin cries about his condition.Sarah shows slides to Kevin and Alvin featuring her travels in Italy. Alvin warms up.Sarah brings in a sheet for Kevin and Alvin to shoot paint on, and after some enjoyment, Alvin is stricken with pain.Alvin has a vision of his wife, telling him to prepare for death by creating some good memories.Alvin wanders off to visit another terminal patient, an attractive older woman named Valerie. They chat and flirt a little.Sarah cries while praying over Kevin.Alvin opens the door for Valerie to enter a tub room. He spies on her, and when she turns around topless, he sees that she is missing a breast.Alvin begins talking to Valerie outside, and she suddenly leans in to kiss him.Sarah plays a guitar and sings for Kevin a song called Tomorrow. He has memories of their happier times together. Alvin listens from his bed and remembers his wife, who scolds him again for not having faith.Alvin sits down to watch some of A Farewell to Arms with Kevin, who asks him what they would do in a war with little time left. Alvin turns off the movie, saying he knows what happens.Kevin desperately asks Alvin to manipulate his colostomy tube to clear his waste, and even though Alvin complains, they laugh about it.Kevin tells Sarah that he envisions her life with someone new. She cries, and he tries to reassure her.Alvin envisions telling his wife he never knew her, and asks why she left him.Alvin goes to visit Valerie while she is sleeping, and quietly wakes her up. He reveals that he watched his wife shoot herself in the head on their 12th anniversary. Valerie invites him to lie down next to her, and she tries to reassure him.Alvin and Valerie walk outside and talk. When they come back to his room, Alvin sees that Kevin is gone and becomes very upset.Alvin and Valerie lie in bed together and chat with Evelyn.Sarah speaks at Kevins funeral, and gives a card to Alvin from Kevin, which is for him to fill out when he gets there.Alvin and Valerie set up a double bed in his room. They have given up their Do Not Resuscitate orders. They lie down together to watch some television, and canoodle.

            Carnelle (Hunter), an oversexed hellion who was orphaned as a young child, has always played second fiddle to her beautiful, older, Southern belle cousin -- a past Miss Firecracker contest winner. But Carnelle is ready to turn the tables. After all, she wants that crown. And by golly, she is going to succeed. Her aspirations are further turned when a long-lost brother-cousin, Delmont, recently released from psych ward, returns home, adding to the fiery comic. Hunter originated this role -- by tuns fiery and comical -- in the off-Broadway version of the movie, which was an important stepping -stone to her eventual film debut.

The Family That Preys


            The film starts with the same opening scene of the film "The Conjuring", in which two young women and a young man are telling Ed and Lorraine Warren about their experience with the doll that they believe to be haunted, known as Annabelle.One year earlier in 1970, John and Mia Gordon (Ward Horton and Annabelle Wallis) are expecting their first child. At church, the couple talks to their neighbors, the Higgins' (Brian Howe and Kerry O'Malley), over baby names. John is obviously nervous and not completely ready for it, even commenting on that to Mia. She is upset by his attitude toward the pregnancy, but he apologizes to her and gives her a doll that she's been trying to find for ages. Mia loves it and puts it with the rest of her dolls. 
One day Mia has the television on and the news is reporting about the Manson Family cult and the Tate-LaBianca murders. Manson is shown on the tv screen, having recently been arrested. John tells Mia she shouldn't expose the unborn child to such negative images.At night, there appears to be a murder happening in the house next door at the Higgins home. It wakes Mia up. She tells John and he goes over to investigate. He runs out of the neighbor's house covered in blood (not his), telling Mia to call 911. She does and is about to head back outside when she hears a voice telling her it likes Mia's dolls. Mia stands back frightened when she hears it, and a man covered in blood appears from behind her in the closet, stabbing her in the side. John runs in and fights the man, while a woman is also there trying to attack the couple. Police arrive and shoot the man dead while the woman kills herself in another room. She left a bloody symbol drawn on the wall while holding Mia's new doll. A drop of her blood falls on the doll's face and sinks into its eye.A news report is shown that the assailants were Annabelle Higgins and her boyfriend. They murdered her parents and are said to have been part of a demonic cult.The doctors say that Mia's baby is fine but there was damage to her cervix. She is ordered to stay bedridden for the remainder of her pregnancy.John takes care of Mia as she recovers. Thinking the doll is creepy and involved with the mysterious happenings, Mia asks John to throw it away. He dumps it in a bin outside. Later, John is about to make Mia some Jiffy Pop popcorn until she falls asleep.The next day, Mia is sewing and watching TV, while in the kitchen, the stove turns on by itself and heats up the Jiffy Pop. Mia cuts her finger on the sewing machine and tends to it, not aware when the Jiffy Pop catches fire. She smells the smoke and sees the fire. She tries to run out of the house, tripping over a chair, falling on her stomach, she then starts to crawl but is then dragged by an unseen force. A group of men run into the house and pull her out.John, who works at the hospital, runs to find Mia. She is unharmed, and what's more, she gave birth to a healthy baby girl. They decide to name her Lea.The family moves into a new apartment since Mia is afraid to return home. In their new place, Mia unpacks her dolls and finds that one doll (whom shall be referred to as Annabelle from here) in one of the boxes. Mia just places it alongside the other dolls.As expected, more strange activity plagues Mia and her new baby. Mia meets two neighbor children that are coloring on the stairwell. The girl tries to introduce herself but her brother tells her not to say anything to Mia since she's a stranger. When Mia returns home, she sees the drawings from the kids, which show a continuous animation of Mia wheeling Lea in the carriage and letting it go in the path of a truck, where Lea is dead. Horrified, Mia shows the pictures to John.On another occasion, Mia is alone and thinks she sees the ghost of a young girl. The door closes, and the girl starts to run to the door, then turning into the adult Annabelle Higgins. She disappears.Mia contacts the detective that told them earlier about the murders Annabelle and her boyfriend committed. He informs her of their history in the cult called The Disciples of the Ram that seeks to summon a demon by claiming a soul. This also explains the symbol that Mia keeps seeing.Mia goes to a bookstore run by a woman named Evelyn (Alfre Woodard). She gets a book called "The Devil's Welcome". From that, Mia determines that the presence that is haunting her wants a soul - Lea's.The couple contacts their church's priest, Father Perez (Tony Amendola). He takes Annabelle (who looks more gray and scary with bloodshot eyes) with him to church. The ghost of Annabelle is nearby, along with a demonic-looking creature. Perez enters the church but is blown back by a powerful force and is thrown on his back. He is hurt badly, and the ghost snatches the doll.John treats Perez at the hospital while Mia meets with Evelyn. Evelyn tells Mia that she had a daughter named Ruby that was around Mia's age when she died. Ruby died in a car accident caused by Evelyn. She was so distraught and guilt-ridden that she attempted suicide by cutting her wrists. However, she claims to have heard Ruby's voice telling her that it wasn't her time.Perez warns John that it was indeed Annabelle's spirit that caused his injuries, and that she will take a soul that night. John rushes to warn Mia. In the apartment, the demonic presence haunts Mia and Evelyn. It pushes Evelyn out of the apartment and taunts Mia by locking her outside of Lea's room where the baby sits beneath the bookshelf. Heavy books fall around her while Mia screams for her baby. Annabelle (the doll) falls down and stares at Mia. Mia breaks the doorknob and runs in to grab Lea. Then, the doll appears to stand up on its own. It then seems to float in mid-air, but it's really being controlled by the demon. All around the room, "her soul" is written in red crayon. Mia grabs the doll and bashes it against Lea's crib and throws it on the floor. The doll then appears to turn into Lea, bloodied and dead. Mia runs over to her and cries, thinking she's killed her baby. It then turns into one of Mia's giggling dolls. She screams and asks what the demon wants. The window then opens amidst whispering sounds, with "your soul" written across it.John runs home as Evelyn is trying to open the door. They both break it open to find Mia ready to jump out the window with Annabelle in her hands. John pulls Mia back in before she jumps, saying there must be another way. Evelyn grabs Annabelle and decides to make the sacrifice, knowing this is the way she can atone for Ruby's death. She plunges out of the window and hits the pavement. Lea is then heard in her crib, safe and sound. John and Mia mourn Evelyn but embrace their daughter.Six months later, the Gordons have moved on and have not seen Annabelle since then. Elsewhere, a woman (the mother of one of the girls in the opening) comes into a store looking for a present for her daughter. She then spots a doll that is said to be a rare collector's item. That's when she purchases... ANNABELLE.The ending text says that the Annabelle doll resides in a case in Ed and Lorraine Warren's little museum, and that it's blessed by a priest twice a month. There is also a quote from Lorraine Warren that says evil is real, and while we can contain it, we can never get rid of it. The camera then lingers on Annabelle as though she'll make a move, before cutting to black.
